Strong As Ropes

Learning to swim, in the pool of life
You see every reason, to grab your knife
But no, its just out of reach
He’s climbing over your walls, they’re almost breached

Pray to the only thing you know true
He’s the only one who’s helped you through
But he can’t save you this time
Fore you’re too far in the pits of hell, for all your life’s crimes

You see the light but can’t reach it
He never knew, but he will this time, you’ll have to admit
Arms reach far to try to touch the light
But its useless, even though it shines so bright

You have no fight left, you’re might as well be gone
You know its not even close to dawn
But wait, you see the most shocking thing
It’s the hand with the golden promise ring

Shocked, stunned you take a second look
But it was true, it was the boy that the other girl took
Its not possible, it can’t be
But its right, that was the boy you let go free

You scream his name, but it seems he can’t hear you
Maybe you’re too far down? Maybe he can’t get through?
Its him you thought you’d never see
You think “but now he can’t see me?”

You shout, you yell, for hours it would seem
“This can’t be happening, this is what happens in my dreams”
You think, you ponder “does he know I’m here?”
“Of course he doesn’t, his hands starting to disappear!”

Just before he’s gone, he looks at you straight
But when you see him, that’s not the boy destined in your fate
That’s the face of the devil, looking into your eyes
You gasp at the sight, looking for him. But he’s gone now, buried in the lies

Cry tears of blood, for you’ve got many years ahead
There will never be a way out, even if you fled
He will always haunt you, even in your dreams
Fore you’ve been ripped apart, even at the seams

Just when you think its over, he comes back with a new plan
Fore he’s clever and wise, he can do more than any man
He will slowly crush your soul and shatter your hopes
Because he knows he has you tried down with lies as strong as ropes
