Consider the following, albeit imperfect, analogy.
The inventor of the automobile designed his creation to need both gasoline and oil. Remove one or the other and it will not function properly, if at all.
Then consider yourself a creation made by God, Who designed you as being both body and spirit. You feed yourself the best of foods (or medications) but you neglect feeding your spirit – you will be deficient in what it takes to make you *run* properly.
Trust me, friend. I scoffed for many years at God. Who needs it? I’m my own person, I am independent, I don’t need anyone or anything. The last thing I want to be is a Jesus freak. What possible fun is there in being a Christian?!! And so on, and so forth. Until I was at the point of taking my own life. You know, when it was do or die, literally. As a last resort – believe me, I’d tried everything else – I decided to try it. What have I got to lose, I thought. And as I state in my story, which you can read at DivineRedRiver.com – THE GREATEST REGRET I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE IS THAT I DIDN’T TURN TO GOD MANY YEARS BEFORE.
If you will just be open to Truth, which does exist, you will see exactly what I am talking about.
Like someone responded to an earlier post of mine. Yes, there are circumstances in life that just plain stink. And I do not propose that God will fix them all. But He enables you to deal with life’s situations in entirely different ways than you do now. And you are able to experience real joy and peace. I can’t explain it all here.
Please read my letter and know that I was one of those who laughed at God and people who told me what I am now telling you. They made me sick! Like I am probably a huge turn off to many of you right now. But, I risk that because I genuinely care about you and pray for you every day to discover the Truth that I did.
I want to add that you also can have all the Truth in the world, but if your body is not functioning properly, you still will not function properly. Everyone should seek medical help to make sure that their bodies are performing as they should.
The point is, you must be sound in body AND spirit to be a properly functioning person with the ability to enjoy life, with it’s good and bad.
God bless you, friend.

I think there’s a low order of probability that God exists, but do not discount the possibility – hey, maybe he’s just really bad at his job or something. BUT I think there’s an even lower order of probability for the existence of the soul, because if it does exist, I’m completely befuddled about what it’s for.
If you only knew how much you remind me of my *old* self, Lorax! 🙂
I CHALLENGE YOU, read my letter with the possibility that I could be right and act on it. That’s all I ask.
At the bottom of the page are references where real answers can be found.
You were placed on this earth for a reason. Your life has infinite value and significance.
You were made to be uniquely YOU for a purpose! Find that purpose and truly live.
God bless you, Lorax. I am praying for you and everyone here.
I was a huge theology buff / Christian, church-going member of the flock for many years – a great many, and I was thoroughly convinced of the whole shebang and absolutely loved studying the Bible in my spare time. It was one of the few things I truly enjoyed. Then one day, a question popped into my head… if God sanctifies and regenerates the believer – grants him or her a “new mind,” and a, “clean spirit” to replace the depravity and filthy rags he or she had previously, then why are there so many Christians professing faith who have no clue what their faith is even based on? So many Christians rely on isolated and context-less tidbits of scripture to base their doctrine on, and as a result, the things they believe, and consequently the things that they do and try to justify doing become so completely distorted and confused that it’s hard to not draw parallels with the Israelites in 1 Samuel who demanded a king from God’s prophet. God basically said those people were atheists; depraved heathens who had rejected Him and embraced worldly things, so God gave to them what they wanted – as a curse upon their heads. But Jesus is supposed to be the new-man who remakes those who hold faith in him, so what gives?
Well… it’s all downhill from there. 😉
I don’t mean any offense or anything to that effect – I have a lot of respect for Christians who hold onto that passage, John 15:18-20, and cling to that for dear life because that’s what it means to be a Christian in today’s world, but it just doesn’t cut it for me and I have a hard time wrapping my head around all the surrounding issues that crop up from the premise that the Bible is correct.
No offense taken, Lorax. I’m glad you responded.
However, I just found the rules to this site that include “no preaching” and I don’t want to risk breaking them.
I know well your frustration. Been there, done that. But I refused to give up until I found solid answers.
If you would like to continue dialogue, please contact me via my website noted in original post. I will be more than happy to share what I found.
