Many people who come here want to end some kind of pain, pain that they feel there is no other escape from except to end it all. Â Emotional pain, physical pain, social pain, loneliness, isolation, heartache, failing health, or even what the Germans call “weltshmerz”, an ache brought about by the understanding that the physical experience of living in the world cannot satisfy the demands of the human mind.
I understand these pains. Â And while I agree that the end of life also brings an end to these pains, as near as I can tell, there’s only one downside to death. Â The downside is that death brings an end to everything you experience, the end of “you”, and the end of you also means that “you” aren’t around to experience the end of the pain. Â The end of the pain, the peace of death, is not something you can experience, precisely because you don’t exist anymore to experience anything.

In death we feel nothing. That means we don’t feel pain or peace like before we were born. That is what I desire…..To be non existent. I dont care about peace as much as the ending of pain (life). By ending my life I will eliminate pain because I wont feel it. I wont exist to know pain nor peace but by default the ending of pain is peace.
i get your argument but that is precisely the point – to not exist, not be able to feel anything, be aware of anything, be completely separated from everything humanity and in the universe.
in other words, when everything you experience is misery and pain, then ending that experience is the goal of suicide.
I always see people talking about death, like there for sure isn’t going to be any pain after you die, like there will be nothing.
I simply don’t believe that it’s true. I believe we will come back again in the next life and be burdened by our emotions, all stacking up on each other. I mean, can you really imagine something else than this life?
Having “nothing” being the end result wouldn’t explain the idea of “hell” or “heaven” or “purgatory”, all general ideals around the world for thousands of years. These ideas came from somewhere. Man has always searched for his meaning outside this life, his direction into the after life.
These ideas of heaven and hell contain strong emotional bonds to where you can’t mention hell in a positive light, you can’t expect heaven to be a negative idea. All this put together to where we as humans have created this idea that it isn’t our mind and bodies that transcends this life, but that of our soul, spirit, theta, what have you.
If people really have gone to the other side and came back with a story to tell, then we can see that there is emotional bonds with this life on the other side as well. So to escape this life is to really place an even greater burden on the next life.
It’s here in this life that we should try and make things right, try to understand a bit more and try to release our emotions now through knowledge and practice, rather than have our emotions burry us in this life before its over.
Good post, got me thinking.
