Don’t grow up. If you are grown up already, consider a change of profession before it’s too late. It’s boring and you’re not allowed to have fun. Ever. People think you’re weird if they see you playing in the snow while wearing a business suit. Need I go on?
Life is for living. That should offer all anyone needs, but when you start realizing that the world is a complicated place, and nobody actually knows anything, and the easy answers don’t add up to much more than hot-air, it’s easy to forget what living is. Look at squirrels. They’re living. They know how to live like freaking crazy. They might get caught by a cat or run over by a car at any moment. I think that’s why they’re so hyperactive; they’re trying to fit in as much living as they possibly can at any given moment. And it’s hard to think they aren’t having fun when they’re chasing each other through the trees.
Well, that concludes the nature segment of tonight’s programing. And now for something completely different.
Watch…

You know what, I’m actually feeling OK tonight. But reading this just made me feel even better. We can learn a lot from squirrels.
I think the squirrels are BAD
The squirrels have no idea they’re just cosmic bacteria. They still reckon they live in a self-centric universe, sheltered within the omnipotent paw of the Creator. The world was made for them. They bask in its pleasures and partake of its infinite bounty. They don’t think overly much because they already know with the absolute conviction of ignorance and innocence.
But can it last? One day a neo-squirrel may come along, blow all their minds, and generally fuck everything up for them. 🙂
Yeah, but they’ve got it made while it lasts 😀

i thought there were chasing each other to screw….
Not to sound TOO nasty. but ALL living things have three purposes
1) Eat
2) Avoid being eaten
3) Make the next generation
The rest is a CHOICE.
But back to your topic…… If they are chasing to have fun OR to _______ – then I guess they ARE having fun.
Wow. THanks for depressing me. Even SQUIRRELS are having more fun than me.
j/k 🙂
I dunno, I think they just see the world as a playground. 😀 Freaking frenetic creatures.
I think college campuses give them ADHD, though…

Time.
Time is the difference.
All animals, plants, and rocks and earth live peacefully in the present.
Only man lives uncomfortably lost in time.
Squirrels know nothing of time.
Even while hiding food for the winter they are in the here and now.
Only man is trapped on a mind made timeline.
Can you escape?
The thing with the squirrels is that they don’t know any better. They clearly don’t have the same depth of thought that (some) humans possess.
After thinking about this post more analytically, perhaps the squirrels are a metaphor for ‘normal’ people. Those of average or below average intelligence that lack the capacity to look beyond where their next meal is coming from.
Whilst it’s quite a whimsical post (I enjoyed) it, the beauty of this post is that it is so multi-layered yet brief and to the point.
Maybe we can learn a lot from squirrels. Although, in order to fully immerse oneself into the squirrel mindset, one may have to shut down most of their brain in order to actively participate in squirrel-related activities.
intelligence as in depth of thought is a drawback
In some societies, I’d class intelligence as in depth of thought as bordering on a disability.
Deeper thinking is what got us into this mess, and deeper thinking will be what gets us out I hope. I would not begrudge anyone the pleasure of a pure and simple life. Someone has to do the breeding. 🙂
I don’t get why people keep bringing babies to this world but refuse others the right to check out
it’s really a shame to belong to this supposedly evolved species
Wow, this posting started a lot more conversation than I thought it would. 😀
And some very interesting thoughts by everyone. I’ll interject this, since I was actually thinking about it when I wrote this post, and the Guardian seems to have tuned into it.
Time; did you know there’s a tribe in Brazil called the Amondawa, deep in the rain forest, that has no concept of the passage of time? Not only that, but their numeric system goes like this; 1, somewhat more than one. They’ve lived like this, content among themselves and the jungle, for untold generations. I’m actually saddened to learn their culture is quickly vanishing due to their adoption of the Portuguese language. This type of conflict is also something that’s happened, although in a different sort of way, with aboriginal Australians.
orangish, I’ve read some of your posts and I think you’ll enjoy reading this topic:

Wow, you hit gold there, man. Thanks! 😀
you’re welcome
Never would I think I would be reading about squirrels and somehow have that connected to depth of the human mind by comparing the simpleness of a squirrel’s life to fact that most people who are happy in life are most likely simple minded individuals, I was talking to someone once about art and the way artist seen things (because i felt myself in spirit a artist but not one physically) and how they see things differently because art and beauty depends on the eye of the beholder, anyway I always felt that depress people have more complex minds that are open to this, and sansespérer has said this I think a few times..
….come to think about it, my ex/ love interest is a kind of a squirrel… lol -I love this post, comments and everything. Thank you for this post orangish.
Thank you for reading it. 🙂
Complexity of mind is relative, though… It’s complexity of life that’s the game changer. In order to eat in our society, you go to McDonalds and tell the drive-through cashier you want a #1. They say that’ll cost $6. You say you don’t have that much because you don’t have a job, because your boss was forced to downsize, because some investors decided to speculate on the market which crashed the economy, and you blew your savings on paying rent. They say tough luck, we can’t help you. You go home and suffer from hunger.
In a tribal setting, you grab your bow and arrow, wander into the jungle, find some creature and kill it. You clean it. You take the meat home and the whole tribe eats.
AS long as I live don’t you delete this post promise me.. leave me that comment here.
So what happend. Blue.? like one P A Graf.?
I won’t delete this one, don’t worry.
I hope not, if anyone think this post was stupid they could fuck off.
Just by watching life around us we question what is life, and see how complex we make things on ourselves, if things was so much more simple that means so many people would be depress.
I got my own special message from this post, and it was that this was on suicide post that open my eyes to this message which i would never seen if I seen this anywhere else.
it came down to the people that give a shit and the people that don’t care will never care.
@Silentblue: That’s true, but the people who don’t care are only hurting themselves in the long-run. The world is a strange place, but it doesn’t have to be strange to us.
@orangish, I’m really glad to see this post back up again, and today of all days. 🙂
I like this post, orangish. 😀 What I got from the video was amazement at how the little squirrel never gave up. Even though the wall was too high, he kept trying. And then some people were kind enough to help out. That’s how life should be, I suppose. It’s important to never give up and always be kind and offer a helping hand when you can. That’s my take on it.
TGG, have I told you yet that you’re fabulous and that we should get married and have squirrel babies? <3
When I came across the video the first time, I was drowning in an ocean of apathy. The squirrel was not a part of the landscape to those people, and that's absolutely the most inspirational thing I could have hoped for at the time.
This is a cool post im going to copy and.padte it
Brilliant post, Orangish, and brilliant comments/discussion. Thanks to truthbetold for the link to the post on big brother.
Those squirrels were truly an inspiration.
I <3 squirrels! 😮
