A fictional account of a better idea, from the mind of a man wearing worn pants.
I found this a while back and have often wanted to share it, but always struggled to remember the name, or locate the link buried in my countless bookmarks… but here it is.
“The Ragged Trousered Philosopher’s Conversation With God”
(I totally didn’t expect that site-cap to occupy the entire front page; my bad.)
Just wanted to share this here for you guys, as i think many of you may find it interesting, possibly useful.
And for those of you whose eyes have opened wide enough, to see beyond the veil of lies… i thoroughly recommend checking out Mr. Stottle’s Blog.
Although i might predict that those whose eyes do see, might wish to close them… and pretend that none of this is happening.

“Yer a wizard Harry”.
I would’ve left the site-cap in there if i could make the front page display shorter, like a normal sized post. I figured wordpress should just automagically crop the preview for the front page, since i’m sure the site’s front page isn’t intended to be dominated by a giant website screenshot… but i guess that’s not built-in. Maybe i should investigate the “more” tag. Maybe i can choose where to cut off preview-content, so that everything else below it is only displayed upon entering the post… i’m totally a novice in such things.
I, like an idiot, originally tried to read the “site-cap” as it was, without clicking on it. I couldn’t do it so I gave up. After you made into a hyperlink, I read about half of the “encounter with God”. I reckon he was stoned or something. God would never wear jeans.
There’s quite a lot of things that quite a lot of people seem quite certain that “god would never” do, or allow…
So, you know, maybe god would wear jeans, if he wanted to fit in with a crowd, enough to manifest into human form.
It’s a good story, imo.
I was taking the piss. 😉
Besides, God wouldn’t need to blend in, because he could just make all living things, just not see him. Or he could just stick to manipulating people from the heavens. He wouldn’t need to come down to visit.
There are too many words for me to read right now. After about 9pm, my brain just zones out of most things.
I have a question I’d like to discuss here. I was listening to the radio some radio talk show pastor talking about how god is not of this galaxy. So it made me wonder. Is he from another galaxy? Are his people all powerful like him? Do they posses amazing technology that is both mechanical and organic. Who knows.
Also the radio host went on to say that there is no god in everyone only god in Christians. The non-Christians have no god in them because they do no believe in jesus christ. I lol’d on the inside for a while. How narrow minded to say that they are the only religion.
Thought provoking, thanks for sharing.
If you were god, don’t you think it would be interesting to test your own creations by “being” them sometimes? It stands to reason that, being all-powerful, god would be immune to laziness, and would have unlimited energy. He could just do whatever and never need rest. He could just “decide” to have endless energy and to do literally everything simultaneously. I mean, we’re talking “all-powerful,” right? Sure, he could just “will” everything to be exactly how he wants, without needing to test anything… but wouldn’t that get a little boring? I would imagine it being somewhat like being the best at any particular video game. It would be too easy, so you’d have to challenge yourself sometimes by making things imperfect, or decreasing the amount of things working in your own favor. Zero advantages, maybe even all of the disadvantages at once. Maybe it’s lonely being the almighty. Maybe he just likes to manifest in whatever form, from time to time. It would be reasonable to think that he might assume the form of someone most people don’t want to look at, or would easily overlook, just so as to not disturb the environment, because after all, we have free will, and can decide to react to anything we encounter.
Obviously i’m just a mere human who “cannot possibly conceive of god’s mysterious ways of working,” but… i feel that we should use these wonderful things we have, called “brains.”
@ATE:
I would advise against listening to any “pastor,” unless purely for entertainment. How can god NOT be of this galaxy? Does that guy have any idea how many galaxies exist? There’s a black hole at the center of our milky-way.
I don’t think Christians believe there are no other religions, but many of them do seem to believe theirs is the only valid one. Obviously other religions do exist… this is an observably true fact of reality.
But if you flip it around and understand that “God” is literally a meme, just an idea… then it would technically correct to say that non-believers do not “contain” the belief, and that “belief” or “faith” is only present within those who choose to contain it. The idea is in them. I have been exposed to the idea, but it’s just an idea, to me, and not actually reality… so i do not contain whatever it is that makes those people believe that they are full of “God.” It’s like i’ve been inoculated or immunized against a thought virus. I have the necessary antibodies to keep that false-belief out of me, or at least minimized so that i’m not spreading it or affected by the symptoms it causes.
@Clevername
My crew leader drives the truck and controls the radio i just put my headphones in and play music. Sometimes I listen to what the pastors say. They make me laugh, or they annoy me with how they see things. God might not be from this galaxy but of this universe speaking in terms of their belief in a higher being.
Jeans are so tacky, surely a supreme being would have better fashion sense than that? Leotards are the only way to assert your divine dominance over the rest. If God wants to go follow bad fashion trends to blend in then he must really lack some dignity.
I read the link from what you posted, it was interesting, yes. I lol’d at the last part.
If there were such thing as a deity I doubt they would want to interact with their creations. Surely it would be boring being an all-knowing being and interacting with things you know absolutely everything about.
If a God were to exist. what would you ask if you were to talk to such a being?
@ATE
I’m betting a supreme being would have technology that transcended what human use, in that it would be comprised of matter far more divine than mechanical or organic. But I dunno, we’re not even talking theoretically or hypothetically, just radically.
Ah, lol. I’ve been in similar situations. All i can do is cringe and try to laugh instead of retorting.
If “God” created the universe, and therefore all galaxies it contains, then how can “God” be “from a galaxy” at all? He would have had to exist before all the galaxies, in order to have created them.
Depending on whether “the universe” existed prior to the big bang (or whatever you want to call “the beginning of what we now refer to as the universe”), “God” would have had to exist separately from the universe, or at least despite it, in order to have created it. “God” could be the container that contains all universes. Our universe, which is astronomically ginormous, could be one of billions of others in the same container, or even occurring in simultaneously in alternate dimensions of space time that we are currently unable to observe.
The idea that any such profoundly astronomical and absolutely powerful entity could even exist, is just utterly mind boggling.
But i also consider that if such a being could exist, then it could simply choose to be anything, or everything, all at once, without even straining. Or, the definitions adhered to by the religious, must necessarily be very inaccurate.
@SB: lol.
But that’s the thing: in relation to the story, he was just blending in. He wasn’t trying to announce himself to the world, he was incognito. Everyone’s seen guys who looked like that, and most people are like “meh” and look away. I found the idea rather amusing.
He also references the “hands off” approach of letting us make or break ourselves. Sometimes he might want to help, but if he does, we’ll be dependent or come to expect it or be jealous of those special cases where intervention occurs. If we can’t get together and figure out how to evolve ourselves, then we don’t deserve to ascend, and will die out. That was the point that was made, anyway. I think this is a valuable idea, whether or not there is a god… especially if there isn’t.
What would i ask…
I suppose that would depend on how many questions i was allowed, and how long i was allowed to prepare to ask them.
At this point, i honestly don’t even know. I feel like i have a decent enough understanding of pretty much everything, and anything i could ask, is either not really relevant, or is something i should be able to figure out for myself. I suppose i would end up requesting some meticulous and precisely articulated favors, of non-trivial but non-miraculous nature. Like “hey, hook me up with a good life, and i’ll try to use it the best i can, as to show tribute and appreciation for my value of it. I was going to do that anyway, but a little boost would be quite welcome. Otherwise, i’m thinking maybe oblivion isn’t so bad, and maybe it’s time to leave it up to the rest of them to figure out whatever.” I just want to be healthy and have a chance at fulfillment. That shouldn’t require a miracle.
That was very good. It reinforced many beliefs I’ve held for a long time. 1) Man is constantly evolving on many different levels. People who are able to adapt can and will eventually transition to “the next level”. 2) If God exists, he couldn’t care less about rituals, ceremonies, superstition or dogma. It’s un evolved humans who add unnecessary pageantry to “God”. God has nothing to do with desperate emotional attempts to explain the universe through childish fairy tale interpretations of the unknown.
3)God is indifferent to feelings. He wants results. He’s interested in species that are capable of advancing and someday reaching his level. This doesn’t mean he doesn’t care about creatures who won’t advance; he just pays extra attention to those who show promise.
4) Eternity. If God is eternal, how does he keep from going insane? Everyday, all day long, always the same, always alone. Wouldn’t he get bored being “The Only One” for time immemorial? Even if he is perfect, he needs a diversion from the day to day norm (which lasts forever). If he doesn’t have companionship, he needs something to keep his mind occupied out there in space, or whatever dimension he lives in. He requires “Godlike entertainment”.
I’ve wondered if God sleeps. If so, does he sleep for a thousand earth years at a time?
For the record, I’m an atheist, but it wouldn’t surprise me if there is more going on than we’re able to experience with our five senses. If there is a “God”, I’m sure that human beings have failed, completely, utterly and totally, in describing what “God” actually is.
I don’t think we’re alone in the universe. Humans are at the top of the food chain on planet Earth, but unless you’ve travelled to other planets you can’t say that humans rule the universe and beyond. So it’s certainly conceivable that intelligent life exists elsewhere, and they’re quite possible far more advanced that homo sapiens. Life forms existing millions of light years away that humans have never encountered and couldn’t begin to fathom understanding.
Who knows. It was a good read clevername, thanks for putting this up.
Yeah it was a interesting bit to read….(I also found myself reading about the police state good stuff there too)
This has nothing to do with anything but….
One thing that always perplexed me…..”In the beginning god created everything the heavens and the earth” So…….what did he do trillions and trillions and trillions of years before that?…..Even if he created our time there still had to be a lengthy period before the earth was created….Is time like numbers? where it has no ending or beginning?
I’ve wondered that same thing. For a long time I couldn’t grasp the concept of infinity, until I used numbers as a metaphor for the concept of infinity. If you start at zero, you can keep counting forever – there is no last number. Same with counting backwards. This was the only way infinity was able to make sense for me. No beginning, no end.
If time is infinite and if God exists, (or whatever “It” is), what did he do during all that time?
Where did “God” come from? What are his origins? Who or what created him?
How can a creature not have a beginning or an end? It can’t be a physical entity, or organic. It’s something that won’t wither, disintegrate, or be subject to physical laws.
Idk. Energy with consciousness?
Think “mobius strip.”
Also: infinity is practically impossible. What is more likely is that the limits are vast enough to exceed our comprehension, but are still finite. Then again, maybe space-time “folds in on itself” and “cycles” as an endless, and beginningless, loop.
Maybe that’s why loops and recursion and chain reactions are such important and profound concepts…
I often consider that perhaps our current terrestrial perspective of existence is like seeing a combustion reaction from inside, like a freeze-frame of an explosion. All those gases and particles and “stuff,” all that matter and energy colliding and interacting, all that gravitational force… imagine a vast, seemingly endless void… and suddenly a singularity exists, and explodes. We don’t know why the singularity existed, or where it came from… but it sure seems like all this started from an origin, and expanded outward.
Maybe space existed before all the matter and energy which currently fills it?
Maybe the universe is a cosmic combustion chamber, and what seems like many billions of years, for us, is actually occurring in a mere instant, in a much larger realm that we can’t even begin to comprehend.
That was a fantastic read … so was “Resurrection”
