Relapse and Recovery

I’m going to draw a picture
A picture with a twist
But instead of a pen and paper
I’ll use a razor and my wrist
The razor digs in slowly
The line begins to bleed
My wrists are getting bloody
This is the picture that I need
My fingers are getting shaky
I’m finding it hard to think
My throat is getting tight and hoarse
The tears are coming when I blink
I can hear my kitten purring
He’s scratching at the door
My little sister opens it
And finds me laying on the floor
She screams and shouts out “Mommy”
My mom’s now running up the stairs
She suddenly stops in the doorway
She can see my vacant stares
She reaches in her pocket
And quickly pulls out her phone
She’s talking to a lady
There is fear hidden in her tone
My mom starts pacing quickly
My sister has tears in her eyes
The scariest thing about this
Is it shouldn’t have been a surprise
There were tons of signs about this
Things no one cared to know
Very few people noticed
That I had made up my mind to go
They shouldn’t have started rumors
Getting to know me would have taken little time
No one bothered to learn my story
It could have been put in a simple rhyme
You  think everything would be better
And that things should be okay
But in reality it isn’t
Now you’re wishing I would have stayed
The desk in class is empty
There’s a missing student, classmate, friend
They all say sorry to my family
No one can believe things came to end
People are no longer happy
All the smiles have turned into frowns
Everything has changed so suddenly
People’s worlds have been turned upisde down
But I think I might have a solution
Something only you can do
To save a simple life
Maybe even the life of you
Next time you think of drawing
That picture with a twist
Please use a pen and paper
Not a razor and your wrist.
