Try to come up with reasons to prove that your S/A was impulsive … such as: your boss at work being an asshole/*****, or your bf/gf or hb/wf doing something hurtful, or some distant friend/relative of yours passing away (I know this sounds fucked up, but hey, right now, you wanna save your ass).
Also, one thing I have found very helpful in my experience, is to show that you have things to look forward to in the future (other than more S/As) … say something like “I’m looking fwd to spending XMas with my family” or “I’m going to school next year … I’m excited” or whatever applies to your life. Something to look forward to is usually interpreted as you not being suicidal.
If you just tried, there’s not much chance they’re going to listen. And it really depends on your method as well. From my experience, they do love hearing about you talking about the future and about “coping skills” that you plan to use though….

Hope this helps.
S/A?
S/A = suicide attempt
Tell him you were just being impulsive as usual and don’t need inpatient. There, problem solved. Do I get a cookie?

I scored! No inpatient – doc was a pushover – Reg discharge 2morrow now to get out of this damn hell hole they call the ICU!
