As a futurist, i got to thinking last month – What if we passed a national law that would allow everyone who is alive today, to have there brains preserved by cryogenics upon death until science and technology advanced enough to not only bring us back but far enough into the future were suffering abolition is scientifically possible?
I say just the brain to save space and money. I believe that in the future, 3D printing like tech will advance enough to build an exact but better replica of your body around your brain. Along with your original brain, there will be your original memory, and implanted memories of what happened after you died (historically) and mind uploads that will give you the complete ability to deal with the future world you will wake up in.
By then, all diseases will be cured (both mentally and physically), you will have biological immortality, and claytronic matter (programmable matter) will have advanced enough to enter the biological realm (i dub this technology bioclaytronics). Were you can shape shift and overpopulation will not be an issue. Theoretically, under these conditions, you will be able to enter cyberworlds that feel like your own without taking up any physical space.
Scarcity will no longer be an issue ether because theoretically, by this time you would be able to turn anything into anything by programmable matter meshed with highly advanced 3d printing just by changing its atomic structure. for example: a 3d printer that could suck water out of the oceans and turn it into cheeseburgers just by changing its atomic structure. know that sounds weird but this is the kind of stuff I been studying for a long time.
again let me stress that i DO want to die, but it’s because of the cards i was dealt with. Doesn’t mean that wouldn’t want to live 100s of years into the future were a techno-utopia is possible.
I thought my original idea was far fetched until yesterday when i read a wikipedia artical on neuropreservation! my freaking hair stood up on its end because it basically said (the first part anyway) exactly what i theorized! check it out – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuropreservation << maybe im not crazy after all!

yes its a great idea but you have missed a very important thing. why would scientists even give a fucking shit to unknown people like us and preserve our brains? we arent important. I am pretty sure scientists will keep all the goods to themselves and kill everyone else. no one really wants to see other people happy. it makes us jealous. deep inside your heart, you have too. it is basic human instinct
that’s a possibility and you make a great point. I think it can happen though. it’s possible and should be considered one of the most important human right! Your actually the only one that ever said the idea was good. When i write in yahoo answers all these people laugh. I think it’s because they don’t think and study up enough on things. they just believe what there mama’s and papa’s told em. As someone with severe depression and a hard life, i am forced to think and study things like this. People are selfish and it sucks. There are people who care very much about abolishing the suffering of others, look at one of my hero’s Jack Kavorkian! i’m sure we all watched that video were he euthanised that man who was dying and on the verge of chocking to death. they put this great man away for a decade. its sad! maybe neuroscience will someday abolish our primal animalistic instincts.
him not he* freaking ipad autocorrect sucks
(cries) why does nothing good happen to people like us??????????? wah wah wah wah whah
T_T
You lost me at immortality. That is never going to be a thing.
Plus, I think most people here want exactly the opposite of immortality. lol
biological immortality is possible in a far future scenario. We have biologically immortal jelly fish species (that can die if eaten but if they live they are not harmed, they will live forever). Do I want to die? fuck yes! but that’s because I live in a reality were I cannot get better. The future on the other hand would be a lot brighter in dealing with mental illnesses etc. give me a utopia or give me death!
I think you have a great idea… for some other species but definitely not humans. We have proven, repeatedly and unequivocally over the last 10 million odd years, that we are a selfish, wasteful, cruel & just plain idiotic species. Even with all our problems solved we’ll figure out a way to invent new & devastating new problems. That’s just human nature and I don’t see it ever changing unless our fundamental DNA gets altered to fix human nature. But then we’d be a different species.
My personal desire to die in a fiery hell aside, I don’t like the idea of the preserving humans any more than I like the idea of us colonizing (conquering) other planets. Even with a fresh new start we’ll just resume the same crap we’ve always done, and we’ll turn any new world we get into a mess like our current world.
But like I said, I do think you have a great idea & well thought out… for any other species but us!
Great idea. The problem? people. Yup, people. Before an idea like that could get into fruition you’d need a massive awakening of the senses so the world drastically changes, because as it is, humanity is really going to self-destroy eventually. I could see industries selling the “forever-pill” at astronomical prices and sheepish people being hooked on it because they want to continue indulging themselves in designer’s clothes/junk food/reality tv and stupid meaningless things, while continuing to destroy the planet and those around them.
Sorry if i sound too harsh (and i’m not complaining or bringing down your idea, kudos to you, i admire people who thinks beyond the box) but the way the world is, it really wouldn’t work.
As for preserving the brain… if i’m honest, i wouldn’t want to live for more than the normal life span (and at times i consider that is a stretch). What could be a game changer for today’s world would be a way to live your normal life span but being healthy and mostly disease free all the way, while avoiding most of the body’s decay (as in being younger and healthier even into your last years). But i’m guessing it would be sold by ****** companies, or just handed to a selected few 😀
