i could die right now and nothing would change. the world would still progress. i am one out of over seven billion people on this earth and nothing i do is actually important.
Personally, I find being an anonymous one out of a zillion to be quite liberating. Yep, nothing I do is important… THANK GOD! The pressure is off. I can do whatever pleases me. I gotta friend that painfully built a huge company – a real mover and shaker. Meanwhile I write funny stories, pet cats, and date a bunch. In a hundred years no one will remember either if us. That is so cool!
I agree, actually. Somehow I don’t feel the need for anything I do to be purposeful or significant in the long run. I’m content to just live my life the best I can, die and live on for a short time in the memories of the people who knew me. But eh, we’re all different.
I don’t know if it’s true that nothing would change, because I don’t know your life. Often more people are affected that you’d think, and sometimes nobody is. You could change things, wait, and hope to feel more happy and more significant. No one can stop you dying, but if a part of you isn’t sure then I’d try to make some changes instead. Dying isn’t always as easy as people think (sometimes mentally, sometimes practically), even if it’s all you want. So if you’re one of us who feels stuck here for even a short time, it might be worth seeking help. It’s your decision. Whatever you do, you do matter – just as much as anyone else.
Yeah, after you’re dead movies will continue to be made, new music will still keep coming out, technology will advance, medical break-throughs will occur, wars will be fought, babies will be born, and the Chargers will continue losing games. (They’re battling The Packers this Sunday at Lambeau Field).
Your non-existence will not stop the earth from spinning on its axis. It’ll be business as usual after you’re gone.
No one knows for sure how many humans have been born, lived, then died throughout the course of humanity. Scientists can’t agree on when the human species began, and they can only estimate how many people have lived on earth since the first humans came onto the scene. 40,000,000,000 – 110,000,000,000 is the number I’ve read, and that’s a huge differential.
Those 40-110 billion who were alive before us were born, they lived, then they died. The overwhelming majority of them left no legacy (except for offspring maybe, and their offspring left nothing behind in most cases except for more of their own progeny). We as humans are no more significant than deer, dogs, dinosaurs or fleas.
I guess you might as well try to have a good time before you die and fade away into eternal oblivion. This is it, you only get one life. (Unless you believe in reincarnation). If nothing matters, then nothing should stop you from doing what you want to do. Why not? You’re only gonna die.

Only you can stop you.
