I lost my job of almost twenty years today. I don’t have a degree, any skills, a really low IQ, and health problems. I made a pact with myself a long time ago that if this happened, it would be the last straw. I would need to stop being a baby and take my own life. People have been reaching out to me lately, but good people never consider maybe this person had plenty of chances and fucked them all up. Maybe it’s time to admit that I’m a mistake and stop burdening the world. Those people will get over it if I go. They’ll think of me from time to time because they’re good people, but they’ll be okay. I’m just tired of this.

Oh man, I know where you coming from… I fucked up all my chances too … dropped out of university, no degree, no skills … attempted suicide and failed. Now I am here not giving a fuck and trying to love life and discovering who I am… understanding my place in this world … Don’t give up yet… take time to re-evaluate things … don’t be riveted by societal pressure … Be at peace brother
I’m sorry you lost your job. That is horrible after 20 years. I don’t think you should kill yourself over it. You set the goal posts that if you lost your job you would do it but those goal posts are a bit… I dunno, short sighted? Do you qualify for social security unemployment benefit? I am pretty much unemployable and live on the kind donations of the tax payers (social security) and I do voluntary work which weirdly is okay and not necessarily worse than working a regular job. Sure, it’s depressing to be unemployable but there’s more to life than a job. I am more useful to society doing voluntary work than I was working for the capitalist system.
The book isn’t over yet, the chapter is over but it isn’t the end of the book. I say move the goal posts to something else like ”If I am ever going to be incarcerated for life in Ryker’s Island”.
Those are powerful words bruise …
I’m so sorry that you lost your job of 20 years. But, it doesn’t mean that your life is over. Have you thought about working in a retail job? There are lots of jobs out there that don’t require degrees and technical skills. Also, have you applied for employment insurance benefits? Please don’t give up hope. Maybe its time for a change?
