I just had an allergic reaction. Fuck you Taco Bell. Death by onion. Ugh. Anyone else have a food alergy?
I’m heading to bed everyone. I’ve been sleeping on and off due to the benadryl. My throat hurts and I’m starting to get loopy once again. Hah funny thing about things that put you to sleep. I may pass out for a few minuts then wake up feeling high or something similar. Insomnia is great…

I have none. How are you doing?
October_rain; it’s good to see you again by the way! I’m a littler better, took some benadryl. Waiting for the swelling to go down. My sneezing fits are over, and I vomited a bit. The hives will go away in time. Just waiting for my tongue to go back to it’s normal size now.
I have never had an alergic reaction to food of any kind. But I can imagine that it sucks.
I am not allergic to anything that I know of.
I hope your OK.
No food allergies.
PhantomCitizen; I’m ok, I’m just going to feel miserable for a while. Food allergies suck. I’m wondering if anyone on SP has any. And how they deal with them.
I know that it can be a very serious issue. A friend of a friend of mine has a young daughter that is allergic to most foods. So the girl has to be on some kind of medical diet that is very expensive. Its almost like being on an IV most of the time. So the little girl cant just eat normal foods like most of us..
Seafood allergy. I just take meds when needed, but for the most part i rarely eat seafood, it’s a good thing i don’t like it that much too, otherwise i’d be constantly on medication.
Mf; I love seafood. What medication helps you with your allergy?
Levocetirizine/pseudoephedrine, which aren’t that strong and are OTC (at least around here). I guess it helps me because my allergies aren’t that bad, but i do get a lot of trouble breathing if i eat too much seafood… so i never do, lol.
Mf; I just pop benadryl to help. Places that sell tacos have been trying to kill me lately. They have been telling me that there are no onions in something. Then com to find out there are. Bastards. Does the medication you take act fast?
Yup, i notice the effects in a couple of minutes. Levocetirizine without pseudoephedrine helps me too, but it sort of takes longer to act (imho, maybe it’s just suggestion tho). Weird about the onions, maybe they just store onions close to other ingredients and that’s why you get the allergies? i’ve had it happen a few times when a plastic container that previously had seafood wasn’t properly washed.
Mf; I’m not sure exactly. I never have onions on hand at home, or anything containing them. I believe some got thrown in with the burito I got.
Beaubri- I am allergic to seafood, dairy, soy, wheat, wheatgrass, gluten, apple, corn, sesame seed + year-round allergies to dogs, cats, trees, plants, weeds, etc. I’d gladly trade ya for just an onion allergy.
Bah; oh man, that must royally suck. I would trade you if I could.
Yes, that’s part of the reason for my depression. Sigh…
I have no food allergies (except for coffee beans, and that’s not a serious allergy). However, my skin is allergic to almost everything. It’s pretty darned sad, actually.
I’m glad that you’re not dead. Especially to a Taco Bell order. You deserve a more dignified end.
Whiskered-fish; See, I was thinking the same thing. I was thinking about throwing in here that if I died by a Taco Bell burrito, what kind of death is that? I’d rather take my own life and be dignified by it than a stupid burrito. Taco Bell pissed me off. I’m actually mad about this.
You should be. How many times have places f****ed up my order? How many times I could’ve gotten seriously ill or died? Well maybe the dying part I don’t object as much but the getting sick part- I don’t need to get horribly sick. Life is hard enough. But they are careless, in almost ALL restaurants and it happens ALL THE TIME. It’s just wrong. But nobody cares enough to fix it unless someone dies and they get a massive lawsuit. Even then…
Death by burrito. Saddes. Death. Ever. If you’re gonna die by food, better make it filet mignon or something fancy schmancy to die to.
Bah; you have a great point there. People need to me more careful working for food industries. It shouldn’t be something taken lightly. People are dumb.
I would rather go by lobster. It’s expensive here haha. Lots and lots of fish.
a lot of these people get paid shit wages. that’s why they don’t care. and people like us suffer as a result.
Bah; See even if I was getting paid shit money I would make sure the job is done right. Sadly most people who work for food I’ve noticed have no common sense.
why would they care if they get paid crap wages cuz some of them are struggling just to get food on the table themselves
I mean why would they care if someone has food allergies
To be truthful though, whether they were getting paid a crap wage or a good one, people just don’t give a stuff and are very selfish
Surprisingly, I also have bad reactions to onions.
When I was very young, I liked them, but some weird chemical change happened during adolescence, and I think that’s when I developed some kind of allergy to the oils/essence of raw onions.
I don’t mind onion powder, or Burger King onion rings which apparently have been processed into oblivion. But I absolutely can not eat raw onions.
And I can NOT be in a room while onions are being sliced up.
The smell of a raw onion will make me gag violently and throw up.
No joke.
I love garlic but I can’t eat onions.
Cordless; A lot of people I know think my alergy is weird. Almost taboo. Does that happen to you at all? See ive had an alergy for as long as I can remember. My mother actually doesnt believe I do. So she slipps onion in dishes she cooks. She doesn’t let me know it lies half the time. So I gotten to the point that I know what she makes with onion in it. If it is new I wont eat it. She just thinks I don’t like them.
It is strange how you are sensitive to certain aspects of it. I cannot eat anything with onion powder or flavor to it.
My pet peeve is when people say “Well, just pick the onions off”.
As if it’s some simple little thing, and I’m just being fussy.
What I learned to say was “If I took a crap on your pizza, would you just pick the turd off and eat it anyway?”
Even if it’s been picked off, the onion oils are still there and they can still make me sick.
I once had an aunt who thought if I couldn’t SEE the onion, I wouldn’t notice it.
We had dinner at her house once when I was a teenager, and she made lasagna.
Her solution to the onion thing was to BLENDERIZE the onions into mush, and spread it throughout the whole thing.
It was awful. I couldn’t eat any of it.
Worse, my parents didn’t take me seriously, and they tried to shame me for “making a scene”. As if I was somehow behaving badly by getting sick.
Cordless; The exact same happens to me! That is so, … Uggggh! Frustrating. Especially if it’s coming from family. Have you ever wished someone who doesn’t believe you had a food allergy? I do all the time. Have them eat the food and tell them what they have been saying to you for years. Stick that in their juice box and suck on it.
Does the smell bother you as much as it does me?
I can’t be in a room where onions are being sliced.
Even the breath of someone who just ate onions…
Accggh.
I have to force myself not to throw up.
hey beaubri I’m sorry that happened you have an allergy. How is an allergy weird – people can be allergic to nearly anything, right?
Not interested in life; That is sadly very true. I’m thinking about the next time I decide to go somewhere to eat I’m going to hastle the hell out of them. If it’s getting to the point that I can’t eat somewhere with out having a reaction I’m going to start being ‘that guy’. I will ask one million questions and double check everything over with them. Just to make their job harder. Because if they can’t manage to do it right the first time it should only become more difficult. I’ve noticed a lot recently that onions are in a lot of food I’ve ordered. So I waste money on something I have to throw away.
Not interested in life; A lot of people I know have never heard of an onion alergy.
You know people, if it’s new it’s either taboo or trendy now of days.
Like dying your armpit hair pink.
Armpit hair…. pink?
I just Googled this and was shocked to realize that people actually DO that.
OMG.
I’m old enough to remember the days when all people did was wash, shave, slap on some deodorant, and pray that they didn’t stink.
Cordless; haha, I was shocked too when I saw that it’s an actual thing.
Cordless; yeah it bothers me. I take an alergy pill before being around them being prepped. It helps lessen how my body reacts to it. I don’t vomit from the smell however.
Oooh Totally cool
My body makes natural Beaubri and Cordless repellent.
Thought #1: You sweat onions? Or have onion breath?
Thought #2: You… WANT to repel me? 🙁
If I eat onions its my breath. And my sweat of late (maybe its the meds and diet change), is ranky onions and I don’t cook with em
Nope the oh cool was in the negative
8-\
I’m sorry
Funny too my deodorants make me break out in pin dot rash these days and that sucks
Totrees; as long as you dont turn into the vegetable, I believe we are fine. Haha. If you bacame an onion that would be an interesting turn in events.
Maybe I’ll write a book about it.
Imagine if your skin peeled like an onion. I think I would enjoy that way too much.
Oh wow. Deep into thought here. If I was an onion being (and not allergic to myself). I would never have skin. I imagine it would hurt. I would enjoy that way too much. Now I wish I was an onion.
Nothing to be sorry for. 🙂
