Sink or Swim (poem)

this poem could use some work but eh, i’ve had some writers block so

you and I are out in the sea
Lost and afraid, you look at me
I hold you close but pull you down
and look away as you start to drown

I watch you sink then start to swim
Remembering that it wasn’t me you loved, it was him.
the sun goes down and I’m all alone
Shivering in the dark blue water, i’m on my own

The storm approaches and the waves hit
I ask myself “is it time to quit?”
I kick and scream in desperate need
someone pick me up, i say in plea

The clouds are dark and it’s dead at night
with nobody around, i’d lose this fight
my arms still moved and my legs still kicked
but minutes went on and i got tired quick

finally, hours pass and the storm is gone
My eyes are barely open when it’s dawn
I barely move, i barely speak
I need to stay above, but i’m too weak

now It is only I that is out in the sea
lost and afraid, I count to three
I go under for the first time in years
and as i start to sink, I lose all my fears
