Hello, I have severe migraines and headaches- headaches daily, migraines every several months or so and they last for usually one to two or three weeks. I’m a fire Tech student but because of my migraine I haven’t been to class since two weeks ago. It hurts constantly and on top of that I dislocated my knee in class several weeks ago trying to advance a charged hose line.
At at this point everything hurts and becoming a firefighter seems to be looking less and less like a possibility. Today I’m likely to be kicked out of one of my classes for lack of attendance and not completing the mandatory attendance assignment yesterday because it hurt too much (I got half way through and had to leave feeling like my head and heart were about to explode) and it’s horrifying knowing it’s going to happen- which is the only reason I’m going in today- to save my instructor the phone call.
My life no longer seems worth living and I’m considering excedrine migraine medication overdose. I’ve been to neurologists and all they do is up my medication- which doesn’t work, hence the over the counter drug that seems to do more than anything the doctors give me.
My question though, is will it hurt, and if so, how much?

Have you tried ionic magnesium? Many people with migraines get relief by taking this. I use a powdered one. Also has your heart been checked out? Some migraines are caused by a hole in the heart. My doctor told me this for the ones with the auras. I am in a lot of physical pain so I know how awful it can be. I am sorry you are feeling so bad! Here’s hoping that these migraines will end and your knee will heal!
Thank you! I’ll ask about it and my sister actually has a hole in her heart, I asked my neurologist about it and he just kind of dismissed it
Get a second, and even a third opinion if nesseccary, there are many triggers for migraines so everything needs to be looked at. I suffer as well but yours are a lot worse as I can still function, I can only sympathise with your position, it’s the duration that must be so bad for you. My doctor ups my medication when they get worse, I take sumatriptan which works after a while but they’ve started to return. It’s a terrible condition to have but can be overcome so, again, get a different opinion and keep trying, I’m so sorry for you.
You’re welcome! I second Nias’ comment. An appt. with a second doctor would be a good idea. My ortho told me to watch my migraines if I get a lot of auras. My migraines have changed somewhat over the years and I seem to only get those kind of migraines a few times a year. I had some tests done on my heart and it seems to be in good shape. Just something to rule out. I really like ionic magnesium. It is great to take at bed time or at the start of a migraine. It makes you feel relaxed and calm and can cause tiredness. I would start out with a low dose at first. If you need any more info, let me know. Hope they can figure out what is causing those migraines. They really do ruin a whole day. I’d love them to disappear forever. Hope you feel better!
Thank you both! I will definitely check with another doctor about those things! Very kind of you guys to help out
