Sorry about posting non Suicidal content. If you want to know something depressing i was guilted into attending a slightly cultish Christian event earlier so there is that.
I haven’t seen the movie yet but I’m worried, really worried. I’ll see it tomorrow but my expectations are lowered. You see I’m a comic book fan in general. Not a marvel fan or dc (or image or any other indie for that matter) but i love the medium. So since these movies have become the dominant blockbuster I have been prettty happy. Also Batman is my favorite fictional character. So i want this movie to be good soo badly. But the reviews are punishing this film. I’ve been worried for a while about this film. Not necessarily because of batfleck. More because of the younger Michael Bay(Zach Snyder) and Michael Cera’s evil twin (Mark Zuckerberg wait that’s not his name? Fuck what is it? Jesse Eisenberg yeah him). I liked Man of Steel. I think the hate of it is overblown. I left the theater happier with that than The Dark Knight Rises.(I now have them about even though Nolan’s final batman film had more plotholes just blow up the damn city when you see the bat signals, why is Bruce Wayne losing all of his shit so quickly, also how is Gotham supposed to bathe now that all of their water is nuclear…i digress) I’m worried that this movie could sink the comic book super hero ship as far as movies go. At least be the beginning of the end. I remember when comics were seen as uncool and odd. Its great to see it be an important artform again. Look at things like the Walking Dead(not a zombie fan but im aware of its ommense popularity) Comic books are now a well respected medium. I dont want that to end because Zach Snyder wanted to jerk off on everything. Granted Age of Ultron was a mess and the ship kept sailing. The Winter Soldier was awesome so was Deadpool. Civil War and Suicide Squad look awesome. Idk i just hope this movie doesn’t suck and if it does it doesn’t ruin the whole medium.
In case you don’t get the reference in the title here is some (pre) Postal Service.

Just saw it. Don’t expect a masterpiece but if you’re a comics/videogame fan you’re going to be 50/50 leaning to the “i’m surprised and they didn’t screw it up” camp. First half of the movie is slow, really slow. Second part picks up, and even if they took some liberties, it didn’t bother me at all.
Affleck killed it. I think i like him more as batman than bale. Not because he’s better than bale, but because he gives out more of a dark knight returns sort of vibe, which i prefer by a long shot. I do have to point out, it feels like BATMAN vs superman at times, but overall… it’s a good movie with atrocious editing/pacing.
I have to add (just read your whole post): it’s a different batman. You have to forget everything from nolan’s batman movies other than the overall premise. This batman had a family and many years have passed since he gave up the cowl. It’s sort of a mixture of death in the family with dark knight returns.
As for luthor, i feared about him too, but he kinda fits… barely. I’d say they’ll develop him better in the next movies, but he wasn’t bad at all, and he did plot a pretty elaborate scheme. So… yeah, just watch it with an open mind and you’ll be fine. Not a bad movie at all.
And to add another comment (sorry… guess i’m a bit hyper since i just got home from it): the critics are hating on it because of the things i said, the pacing and the editing, but they don’t have the knowledge about the comics to know why there’s more good than bad. Someone that goes to see batman vs superman expects to see batman vs superman, which is unrealistic. What you get is a movie with a similar tone to watchmen, mixed with a summer blockbuster on the 2nd half, in which the actual batman/superman fight lasts less than 20 minutes (but it’s awesome). Plus, no ending bonus easter egg.
So… you say you’re a comic fan of the media in general, and from the pov of another comic fan of the media (not a compulsive fan but not oblivious to it, read the most “known” stories from the comics, finished most games based on batman, etc), i’d advice to go in without listening to the critics, just get your own opinion after seeing the movie. I do have to say, it’s surprising to me that they managed to set the justice league, suicide squad and wonder woman without actually making a huge mess.
