I did already, doctors in Australia are too scared to prescribe anything that will actually help. I think I’ll have to see if I can find a better doctor. I’ve been laying in bed for 3 + hours.
I’ve had insomnia for years, sometimes natural remedies help (like melatonin or otc sleep aids), but if it’s too much i just use sleeping pills, just not everyday (because they stop working after a while). Try going to a psychiatrist, no idea how they are in australia but around here you have to ask them NOT to give you sleeping pills if you go to one, lol.
Yes. Yes, Yes, and yes. I have had insomnia, I still suffer now, though not the worst it’s been. Last year or two I averaged less than 4 hours a night. Pills can help for a bit, and they do stop working like Mf says. If you are in the U.S. you know that doctors here often do not perceive insomnia as being very serious, and may be reluctant to prescribe. Psychiatrists here often prescribe “mood stabilizers”(also called anti-psychotics) rather than sedatives for chronic insomnia, and for once I agree with them… less addictive. That can be worth it when it’s really bad. I used to take something called Remeron(mirtazapine) and it worked well. There’s always side-effects, but aside from pills, exercise and routine was the only thing that ever helped.
oh, I read into these posts backwards. It is you(lilxtina) in australia, and Mf in U.S. lol Mf – When I mention insomnia they think I’m drug-seeking. But yeah, this part of NY half the people you meet are on benzos or opiates so….. maybe it’s just me who they won’t prescribe for.
What all star of suicide said about wanting to stay awake and can’t help falling asleep. . . After a few nights of just giving up and accepting insomnia, I began to fall asleep for longer periods. Not sure if that’s what all star means, but it’s got a logic to it.
For me, meds only seem to make it worse, my body builds up a tolerance quickly and the condition becomes worse, plus my level of general irritability sky rockets. I’ve only had luck by accepting it and planning my night to not include sleep. I read, go for walks, just find ways to occupy my time, eventually my body crashes for 20-30 minutes, usually just before it’s time to wake up. I know this isn’t much help in solving your issue, but I understand the agony of being trapped with your mind when what you need is sleep. I did find SOME relief when I just accepted that it was going to be another sleepless night. It took off some of the pressure, strangely enough.

Insomnia sucks. Sleeping don’t even do anything anymore.
Pills*

I had Insomnia.. I found out what was giving me insomnia, and chased after it with a knife until I felt I could get some sleep.
Hope it helps.
P.S. Sometimes you want to stay awake and can’t help but fall asleep, you know?
I take a nightly cocktail of 5 benedryl and 3 melatonin. Alcohol on the nights it’s really bad. Take 1-2 hours before you want to sleep

I suggest push yourself physically so that you will get tired and then you’ll sleep like a booby.
