Pretty much EVERY article and EVERY psychologist out there says “there’s no such thing as luck” but I find that to be bullshit.
Some ppl DO have more bad luck than others, and some ppl ARE very lucky. And then there’s some ppl like me who are exceedingly unlucky. I know of one other person IRL who has almost as bad luck as I do. Although I guess after 50 years, his luck has finally turned (or at least it’s become more 40/60 rather than 20/80 like it was).
What about all the starving children in Africa? Or the kids who grow up in the slums in India? Is that NOT unlucky? If you were unlucky enough to be born poor, or super poor, you aren’t going to have “good luck” and have a good life.
Everyone always says “everyone has both good luck AND bad luck.” Well, do these ppl born in abject poverty and in slums also have GOOD luck?
It’s so easy for middle class Americans to say “luck is what we make of it” or “everyone has good luck and bad luck” when THEY weren’t born into shitty awful situations, or constantly have bad things happen to them.
Funny how bad things always happen to poor ppl, or ppl born into child abuse or neglect. These ppl grow up to have shitty adult lives- like 95% of them. VERY rare to break out of poverty or early trauma. Very rarely have I seen a REAL “success” story.
Almost every person I know who either grew up poor, with shitty parents who didn’t love them, with childhood abuse/neglect, with SA/rape, with trauma, almost every single one currently is either still depressed or “just managing.” Even the ones who managed to make a decent life (~10-20%) they’re doing OK but not WELL. Like not depressed/suicidal but also not “happy.”

OH- I’m sure there’s a reason why MSM and everything on the web perpetuates the myth that there is no such thing as bad luck. If “they” (corporate America) frame things as personal accountability (ie no such thing as bad luck) then all the blame is on YOU, the individual. If YOU have a bad life, then it is YOUR fault. If YOU have bad luck, then you just weren’t thinking positively enough. If YOU have bad luck, it’s bc YOU create it. If YOU can’t make ends meet, then it’s YOUR fault, not that being paid shit wages is the reason why. Nah. It’s YOU. bc if you JUST worked harder, you’d make more money. Never mind that the VAST majority of ALL jobs in the US are very low paid wage jobs, with no benefits.
