Gratitude is overrated, like many other optimistic/positive-thinking advices. Not everybody can do that. It’s unrealistic, and honestly full of BS (bullshit)

Gratitude has become today’s current hype which everyone seems to be doing, and even keep posting about it constantly on social media. Everywhere you see people always talk about gratitude (& with all other optimistic/positive stuff usually).

It becomes irritating however when gratitude is forced and shoved down our throats, as if everyone should (or must) do that. I’m Kat, I’m 19, I’ve suffered from psychotic depression and severe anxiety for 7 years. I’ve had a really rough upbringing, my father OD’d and disowned me when I was 15, I’ve had hallucinations and delusions since I was 3. Self harmed between ages 13 – 17. Suffered chronic joint pain since I was probably around 9. Have been on several medications. Dropped out of high school at 15. Been homeless. Been mentally and verbally abused by several people. Forced into consenting to sex. SO much. So much about my life fucking sucked.

I am 43, just quit a job I was in which I did because I’m supposed to want to live, to be grateful for being alive but I do not and am not.

I’m not grateful, I see no merit in being grateful. Moreover, to whom is this gratitude supposed to go.Â Did someone create me and now I owe them? Really?

Almost everyone of my close family hates me

I have 3 brothers, sister and mother. My dad suffers from dementia… My sister is my only sibling, whos been acting like a real one. Mother said that my birth was the biggest mistake ever in her life and she’d be so happy if I had offed myself. She blames my narcotic painkiller addiction which I developed after I was hit by a speeding car and by a miracle survived. It hurts.
