Hi everyone,

Hope you’re all well.

I was diagnosed with [condition] where I was prescribed codeine (sort of like morphine) to ease the horrible, physical pain. However, it really makes my head spin which also makes the sadness go away. In fact, I feel almost happy. I know this can happen when you take opiates and i’m trying my best not to become addicted to them (which I am not) but sometimes, I just wish I could take one whenever I feel down. It’s horrible thinking but I was just wondering if people on here know what I mean.

Don’t. There is hope. There is much more than that. I’ve been studying it for 4 years now and I have to tell you: opiates are divinely efficient in chaging the way you feel, instantly. It’s unbelievable. If it wasn’t for them I’d be dead for sure at the age of 18 and I’m 22 now.
Opiates are very addictive, because they make you feel so good, 99% people with suicidal ideations have disrupted endogenous opioid system pathways. It’s always better to be an addict than being dead. Pharmaceutical industry is working on opioids that aren’t addictive, as well as anti-addiction drugs. NEVER LOSE HOPE […]

Maybe we should all just be having more sex and eating more chocolate. Really. (Unless you’re too young for the former in which case you should double up on the latter.) Sex releases endorphins, which are natural opiates, and chocolate contains several compounds that induce pleasure. Who needs Prozac?

funny thing is, i survived six years of heroin addiction. i think i miss the pain of the needle going in more than the opiates hitting my brain. something about pain and pleasure being inexorably tied together that makes one less real without the other. Was listening to Trent Reznor’s Hurt earlier and was struck by the truth of the lyrics

or it certainly seems and feels like I will.

I have had mental health problems for years now and I have always actively tried to help myself. I have always sought help and have been medicated for a long time. I think it was hard because I was never ill enough for it to be noticed by anyone but ill enough for it to interfere with my life daily.
