A beautiful song by The Smiths. This is one of my all time favorite songs about suicide and wanting to die. I love it as it’s one of the handful of non metal songs about the subject so isn’t sensationalist but alot more reflective, thoughtful and melancholy and as such is far more powerful! So please enjoy it…

i wish i could just go to sleep and not wake back up, i know there is something better than all of this.
I like the lyrics to that song, have you ever heard of the song Mad World? One of my favorites, i first heard it in the movie donny darko, which is also a great movie.
Asleep is by The Smiths, an 80s band from the UK. Yes I totally agree Mad World is one of my favorite songs too, though to be honest musically the various cover versions are much better than the original. Comfortably Numb is one of the songs off Pink Floyd’s manic depressive tour de force of 1979 (The Wall) and is also one of my all time favorite songs, and you gotta be a bit manic to listen to it too…
I love the smiths, i gotta check mad world out too, Depeche Mode
is another of my favorites, i have a collection of songs of suicide, sadness or relating too such, listen to The Raveonettes “Suicide song”, another
of my favorites is “The Virgin Suicides” Soundtrack CD, listening to it a few times will put you in a deep, deep trance of suicidal thoughts.
Hehe (false chuckling) I never knew there were so many suicide songs
There are quite a lot actually yes but I’m particularly interested in songs on this topic that are outside of the metal or punk genres for reasons of taste. Like especially in classic, alt and indie rock which I love listening to the most!!! ^_^
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I’m tired and I
I want to go to bed
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
And then leave me alone
Don’t try to wake me in the morning
‘Cause I will be gone
Don’t feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I will feel so glad to go
Sing me to sleep
Sing me to sleep
I don’t want to wake up
On my own anymore
Sing to me
Sing to me
I don’t want to wake up
On my own anymore
Don’t feel bad for me
I want you to know
Deep in the cell of my heart
I really want to go
There is another world
There is a better world
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well, there must be
Well …
Bye bye
Bye bye
Bye …
I love the Smiths, Shelly, probably my all-time favourite band even tho’ I rarely liten to them these days. Thanks for posting this reminder. These songs helped many of us survive the eighties and early nineties. At last! Someone was singing what we felt.
‘Don’t try to wake me in the morning cause I will be gone/ Don’t feel bad for me, I want you to know/ Deep in the cell of my heart I will feel so glad to go/There is another world/ There is a better world/ There must be’.
These words and so many others by Morrissey, are engrained on my heart forever.

Glad you like it Louise! This is actually one of the only songs I like by The Smiths and I also must admit I’m not overly enamored of 80s music, hehe…
