I have decided on the road to freedom. But one problem is of the afterlife of eternal torture my parents burned into my mind I cant shake. I want opinions from people that can help me get rid of thinking that there is a possibility of hell
I beleive that if people that are simply looking to escape the horrors of life go to hell than it can’t really be that bad of a place since it’s filled with a whole bunch of good people that don’t deserve to be there (people that commit suicide, gays, unbaptised babies, ect) so I don’t think it is as bad of a place as everyone thinks
I am an athiest, so I don’t believe in a heaven or hell or higher being. I have to agree with gillyflowers, if such a place were to exist there are a lot of people down there that don’t deserve to be. I’ve been told I’m going to hell for not believing, but I take it with a grain of salt. Even being a good person seems not to be reason enough to get into “heaven”. I’ve been told that I have to accept Jesus as my lord and savior, even if that means I do it while on my deathbed, so I don’t burn for all eternity in the pits of the firey underworld. I guess I can say that all that matters is what you believe. What do you believe?
My personal, biased opinion: Think for a moment about all of the people that have died over the millenia. That’s a lot right? You bet. A lot of bad people. A lot of good people. Various relgions. How is it possible for so many billions of people to fit in this “hell”? Or “heaven” for that matter? What about the people who follow other religions that don’t believe in the same God? To whom exactly are you supposed to ask for forgiveness from? Which religion is the right one? Maybe there is no right one. Maybe human beings created God to scare and manipulate others. Anyway, that’s what I think. But you are free to believe whatever you want.
Hell’s not real. It’s a scary story told to people to make them behave themselves, like the Boogeyman. It’s very silly. If you die, your neurons stop firing and “you” cease to exist because your brain can’t process stimuli anymore, internal or external. You don’t even experience “nothing,” you just don’t experience. Your body becomes a pile of meat, it urinates and defecates itself, relaxes, stiffens, and starts to decay–but you don’t mind, ’cause you are gone. If you will live, live for some reason other than fear of hell, that’s so sad.
If being a queer, agnostic, questioning and analytical person too much for heaven, then i guess there’s room for me in hell.
Either way, I do believe in a force. I do believe in a creator(s) and in life force energy. The concept of every religion, philosophical and even scientific theory is focused around energy. The Chinese call it Chi, The Christians call it the Omnipotent, and Science calls it energy. it’s all around us and it does exist. We don’t just disappear when we die. I don’t know what happens, nor do I want to find out any time soon, but the spirit can’t be just discredited and forgotten once it transitions to the next phase, whatever that phase may be. And discrimination is to Earthly to be even taken serious in the Cosmos. We are who we are, and how again is changing ourselves going to make us more appeasable? If anything, we’d be hypocrites, and isn’t that what God hates the most?
Think of Hell as a cheap, easy way to make you buy fire insurance. The salesman (preacher) convinces you to buy his policy (Christianity) so you won’t burn forever in the hereafter. Fear is a great motivator. Don’t believe the hype. The concept of Hell originated when people still thought the world was flat. Would an all knowing, all loving god create a person who was destined to suffer for eternity?
I don’t know why God would want anyone to suffer for eternity. I mean no matter what someone did, nobody deserves that fate. God must be really heartless then right?
Everyone deserves a second chance no matter what someone have done. Bible pretty much tells you if you go to hell then your damned for eternity. How about that?
For example why gays deserve to go in hell? Because they did the unimaginable crime to have sex?
And they have to pay for this i repeat unimaginable crime for eternity? What the hell.
it’s all bullshit.
That’s why i don’t believe in hell because it doesn’t make sense.
IF there is a hell then it must be for some really really really cruel people.
And remember Jesus Christ didn’t write the bible, people did. This pretty much says everything.
@ runawayyyyy. Agreed. It’s all BS. Who believes everything they read? Just because it’s in print, does that make it real? Should we believe every word of the National Enquirer? Is the story of Santa Claus factual because it’s written down? How come I don’t believe in God? For the same reasons you don’t believe in Santa, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny, etc.,
Personally I don’t believe in hell, but if your fear of the potential of Hell is currently outweighing your pain and suffering on Earth, then perhaps you’re not ready to die yet. One way or another, it’s not our job to convince you what you should do. Just think about it.
I have had 7 NDE’s in this lifetime. Wake up people. There is no heaven or hell. What you will experience at the time of your physical death will depend on what you believe. You create your own heaven or hell, whether here or there.
Why do folks assume they can escape themselves by killing themselves? It is an illusion. Science has already proven that the mind(not the brain) survives physical death.
No matter where you go…..there you are…. so stop crying and start making changes in the way you think and feel now before you have to live with your own abuse forever.
All organized religions are designed to control the masses, and for good reason. As soon as we are able to debunk religion, then what keeps us trying for better?
Personally, I found a new way of thinking, a new way of being by researching other belief systems. “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is a good starter, it literally saved my sorry life. It is a very small book that is guaranteed to have you saying “OH MY GOD!” many times before you finish the first chapter. This belief is not the ultimate answer, but will definitely change how you view yourself and your life. You may just see yourself clearly for the first time. What have you got to lose when you’re ready to lose it all?
Hell??? LOL…rest assured…there is no possible worse existence for the mind, soul, or whatever than this “life”. Period. This world is the most ill-suited of any possible scenario to what our consciousness is, whatever that is.
@irspow I suppose this could be true, but I worry that it isn’t. Things just keep getting worse, so isn’t that proof that things could always be worse? At least we are certain that this life will end. I fear ending it myself only to end up in a neverending hell that might be worse than where I am now. I really don’t know what to believe, but the idea is troublesome.
Do you really believe that there is a plane of existence that could possibly be more absurd than this one??? I cannot imagine it myself. You will have to decide for yourself if you really believe that there is something worse than this cage of flesh. What would that place or plane be??? I don’t know, for sure, but what do you imagine that would be worse? Just curious. Or is simply the “unknown” something that you fear?
I think there could be. I’ve stuck my hand on a hot burner before and that really hurt – what if in hell my whole body would feel like that all the time, in addition to all the stuff that is wrong right now. Actually I can imagine lots of horrible things.
But what if there is a hell and it is exactly like this life, the only difference being that this life will end, but the hell existence would not? That would be pretty upsetting to realize that if I had at least waited it out, this would have ended, but since I didn’t I’m stuck in this situation forever.
Of course, if I did not kill myself and later found out that doing so woudn’t have put me in a worse spot, I’d be livid. There is just no way to know.
C’mon…really? Do you really believe in a “hell”, or “heaven” for that matter? Fine if you do, who am I to tell you what to believe? If you are going to believe in something that MIGHT exist afterward, why not simply believe in something that you want? There is no proof either way, so you can pick whichever belief that you like.
You can imagine that *whatever you choose* happens when you die because it is an unknown. But you ACTUALLY do know what your life is like now and it is too painful for you. If death sucks as bad as life…you have lost nothing and are in the same situation again…
Who knows. I don’t. Believing in Jesus CHrist gives you everlasting life? So if you are of a different culture and not exposed to christianity you go to hell? How does this make sense.. it is kind of depressing thinking that people go to hell. How are people in heaven happy if they know people in hell?
And why do christians cling to life so much? Wouldn’t they be excited to leave the earth? Everythi.ng is confusing but i go to church. Even though my thoughts linger. Church does help me live on earth. Maybe i just need an attitude adjustment but i get so sad and i don’t like it here. I have been ready to die. I pray for God to take my life. Then to see people who want to live die just sickens me. Why not me instead?
