Sex: No matter what trends come and go, no matter what the politicians, priests and parents tell you, sex will always be a priority. Scientists rank it as #2, just behind self preservation. Religions can tell you it’s good or bad, government can control it or liberate it, parents can condone it or forbid it…all in all, you’re still going to have sex. It is the primal urge that supersedes anything that anyone could ever teach you. It is the “animal” in us that refuses to die.
Drugs: The drugs referred to in the phrase “sex, drugs and rock and roll are considered “recreational drugs”. Most of them have had some sort of “healing” qualities in the past and have been part of medical practice. These days many of them are banned or illegal and usually taken in larger quantities than prescribed by doctors. There are countless numbers of narcotics, with countless effects, but they all seem to alter your perception of your environment, if taken in particular doses. They all seem to affect how you react to your environment. You “think differently”. To be under the influence of recreational narcotics, is not considered “mainstream”. Your thoughts and actions and influence, is not “mainstream”.
Rock and Roll: At the time that the phrase “sex, drugs and rock and roll” came to be used, rock and roll was a term used to describe any non-secular type music that encourage any form of non-conformity. Today’s genre’s would also include much of hip-hop, rock and roll, of course, heavy metal, alternative and many other forms of music that promote turning your speakers full volume and “losing yourself” in the music, or promoting a non-conformist attitude.
Religious leaders have condemned sex, drugs and rock and roll at one time or another. Usually relating the acts to evil and violence. I find this to be disturbing, when more people have committed genocide, murder, rape and torture of others, in the name of religion than sex, drugs and rock and roll together. You can add in hip-hop, heavy metal and all the others if you wish and religion still wins by a long shot. If you would like you can throw in sex and drugs also…religion still wins.
This brings me to the scientific conclusion that it may be safer and surely more humane to “go along with” sex, drugs and/ or rock and roll, and leave religion for conformist, delusional, genocidal, maniacs…or the general public, as you may call them.

Do you really think that people that have sex drugs and Rock and Roll are happy? Those values are completely empty and unfulfilling and lead nowhere but depression. I don’t think that religion is the answer at all either and I don’t believe the answer is in one or the other lifestyle. It’s about having harmony in your life, balance, love, and self-esteem. Money does help a lot and having good sex is extremely satisfactory but drugs, sex and rock and roll? Really? When I go out at night I come home filling completely empty. It’s such a superficial environment. And as a final statement I’ll add, I would not ever want to be Axel Rose nor be a part of his “gang”. Yuck!
Black Swan: I’m merely stating that what society calls “bad†or “evil†are most often things that cause us to “think outside the boxâ€. I’m not saying you should indulge in anything to the point of self-destruction, but exploring might be an option…particularly when most of the people writing entries on this site are at the brink of total self-destruction.
You mention balance, love and self-esteem. If it were that easy, this site would be empty. I think many people who write in, are not looking for answers, as there are no simple, conventional “one size fits all†answers. I believe some are seeking ideas and concepts that may give them a chance at happiness. I’m sure everybody on here has heard the conformed “answers†offered by the Parents, priests and politicians. I’m simply offering other concepts and possibilities. I’m sorry that I have an opinion and you don’t agree with it. Let me know when you find the REAL answer to all our problems.
I’d fall in perfectly under this category. People think we are happy just for the fact that we do all these “hardcore” things but in reality we are the ones who are the most sad but just have difficulty showing it. And it doesn’t necessarily mean something bad has happened to us, it’s just us fighting a constant battle with ourselves. I for example have such a low self esteem I can’t stand myself I drive myself crazy crying every might in my room and music seems to be my only escape yet it still makes me sad and angry.
You’ve masterfully described what it would be like to burn in hell.
@Scar504, Hahaha! You really make me laugh sometimes with your comments. I love it!
I don’t think she’s disagreeing with your opinion- she’s just stating her opinion that sex, drugs, and rock and roll are in themselves the same kind of temporary solution as is religion, psychotropic medications- or anything that takes your mind off the pain. Everything in it’s entirety is temporary. Sex didn’t help you the first time, but it felt good, so you do it again and again, just like you would any other drugs. I have not found solace in any of it, except stillness. Sitting on a mountaintop, watching the breeze flow through the trees puts me on top of the world (pun intended) but it is alas still only a temporary solution. I cannot spend my entire life on top of a mountain. We can’t spend it tripping balls or bumping the uglies like old men on viagra at a whore house- The only permanent solution is either death or changing the world- and I don’t see the latter happening. People keep getting more vile. More shallow. All the world is concerned about is sex, drugs, rock and roll, beauty, ect… Bring the old ways… the way of the samurai- honor. The way of the knight- valor, the way of the natives- Thanksgiving- and that my friend would be the solution to all our problems- but yeah, never going to happen.
Let’s have a revolution & put julian in power & the word will be a happy place.
@Nephillim_Sacti, I agree that a revolution of values would be the true Messiah, but it’s impossible given the nature of human beings.
Words like valor and honor were more often than not, just words conjured to get the ill educated to die, so that the better educated could profit. You talk of times when valor and honor meant something, like you were there.
Your grandmother probably speaks of “the good old days”. You know, the days when women couldn’t vote or own land and the husband could beat them with a tree limb, as long as the diameter wasn’t thicker than his thumb. Maybe we should go back to the days of George Washington, when our political leaders never told a lie.
I feel that people’s indoctrination to such fables, is the reason most are left confused and empty in life. Drop the b.s. bedtime stories, from King Arthur to Jesus and let’s focus on more primitive gratification like sex, or using drugs and music and dancing to take our minds to a different plane, in order to think in new ways and come up with new concepts and ideas. It’s obvious the conventional way of thinking is getting us nowhere.
Black Swan: You’re right about the nature of human beings. Most are by nature, lazy. They will just assume “taking you at face value”, than to explore and find their own answers.
But this is a two way coin. If enough people conjure new ideas and begin to follow them, others will fall in line, if for no other reason, out of laziness.
