it seems that this site is mostly just a vent site, blah blah, and moderators pick and choose who has the right to speak and who does not….why did my comment, simply stating both sides to the “suicide methods” argument on here get spammed ?….it was a genuine comment, by me, about this topic….
I would like to here a legit argument for this, as my post clearly stated, that although I think the moderation of people discussing suicide, its methods etc is ridiculous for a suicide project website, I full understand the legal, moral issues etc behind this….and I think a link to my blog is not really spam…simply…a link….
get the feeling mods here are trying play god and mr damn do gooder…

I think the moderators are simply following rules instated by the owner of the site. The head honcho who runs the show and doles out the dough. The guy who set the wordpress blog up and was kind enough to make it available to people for free. Also I think he probably has damn good reasons to prohibit certain topics, so I have no qualms about him playing Mr. Damn Do-Gooder because really, he’s just trying to make sure people don’t act like Mr. Damn-Monkey-See-Monkey-Do. It would be morally reprehensible to do otherwise from any ethical starting point.
I believe there is a mod who has incorrectly interpreted the rule to “not discuss methods’ – what this moderator needs to reevaluate is that the rule is NOT ‘do not mention methods” – to not even mention a method would be stifling and pointless – like a cooking web site saying don’t talk about or mention chicken
Here is the actual rule – This is not a place to share suicide methods.
the correct interpretation is to not compare notes, details and instructions – in other words – no “how to …” discussions
Unfortunately the zealotry and hypersensitivity is killing the purpose of this site – yes there is a grey area and a fine line … but when some asks how to make an exit bag along with an entire history for why they want to know should not be cause for automatic deletion – the vast number of visitors will properly avoid the posting of step by step instruction since most here don’t want others to actually execute – but that shouldn’t stop the discussion of the science of the method – asphyxia vs hypoxia for example or how does ligature strangulation work – giving the medical and scientific information is not the type of information the rules was meant to restrict … the rule was meant for things like “how do i make a noose” etc.
by withholding certain information will only aggravate and steel the resolve of people who already feel ignored and out of control of their own lives and it frustrate those who are actually trying to help … think of it this way … forest rangers use controlled burns (fire) to prevent out of control devastating forest fires – they burn the underlying brush and debris so there is less chance a lightning strike will stat a major fire later … they quite literally fight fire with fire … well here on a suicide web site – sometimes you have to talk about methods to persuade someone that a method is really not the best choice.

Yes, well I hate the fucking moderators on here. if anybody tries the moral police in my life, they’re hearing it from me. If the mods are gonna do this shit to me too, goodbye SP and I hope you did a good job of helping me decide that death in five years would be ok, since I thought this site was a saving thing for me. Maybe not so anymore. Fuck you, moral police! You havve no right to decide what happens to anyone’s life but your own.
The moderators used to moderate extrememly lightly, but recently the new moderaters have been very hardline about ‘the rules of the site’, getting personally involved in disputes and consequently abusing their power. In my opinion, this site worked better with less policing, but meh what can you do?
There’s also every chance that it was a mistake. This site is way buggy…..
Agreed with one_day – although to be fair – comments can be moderated by the owner of the actual post that you comment on … so if the original poster didn’t like your particular comment they might have removed it – but i don’t think that too many site users are even aware of that feature.
the self-policing of the site was one of the very attractive features that i liked about it here … they really need to get back to that … any moderator who is getting personal needs to resign in my opinion – even when the moderator did step in “back in the old days” it was only in the most egregious situations and then they remained above personal interaction – if they interacted at all … who ever this newer moderator is, is probably manufacturing more tension than alleviating it.
