Hello my name is Alec. I have been suffering from depression for quite a few months now and I’m considering suicide. I want to be happy and live but everything just goes wrong in my life, so I would like to know if anyone has advice with trying to tackle depression and self harming.

Hi Clappal. My name is Grace. I too have severe depression and self harming issues. I personally would reccomend seeing a counselor and visiting a psychiatrist, but I don’t know your situation to give you the best advice. How severe is your self harming? Mine has gotten a little better from when I used to cut daily.
Second, I would find someone close to me and tell them about my depression and suicidal thoughts. It will also help to find out why you self harm as well. For me, it is to feel something.

I’ve started getting counselling but I just find it hard to open up to them and they don’t understand me. The one person who’s closest is as depressed or possibly more than I am, it wouldn’t be as serious but I think I love her and the fact that I am powerless to help her is tearing me apart.

I agree. try counseling and a pyschiatrist. People like us in need, there is nothing shameful about it, in fact, we need it.
Make sure you are comfortable with them though, it does matter. If you dont feel right, find another.
Don’t count on another untrained person to give you all you need. They might certainly mean well, but wont have the expertise of how to help you, although do have support from those around you who care.

Is there a hospital near you? where are you from?
I live in Hayling island,United Kingdom. There is a hospital nearby but it’s a relatively small one and I’m not sure if they will have a psychiatric ward there-Clappal
Jesus you’re only 14.
Look, I know you’re probably just starting to learn how much life can hurt and how hard it can be. But you are far too young to be able to make such a huge decision like this. Suicide is a very serious thing, and a person needs to possess a certain level of maturity and worldly wisdom before they are able to determine whether it’s the right thing for them to do or not.
Give it 10 more years, and then if you still feel this way, by all means do what you have to do. But not before then please.

I understand what you’re saying but I go home everyday feeling like shit and my friends do fuck all for me when I ask them for help and my family just tell me to get on with it and self harming only gives me slight closure that I feel like doing more and thank you for the birthday message-Clappal
who is in the house with you? brother, family? friends? if you feel like harming yourself, tell someone there. If they dont listen, try to call/go to the hospital/neighbor to take you there if needed.
My family are on a trip and I’m just trying to resist, I’ve found punching walls and damaging knuckles to be an effective method of making me feel slightly better-Clappal
Asking for help is one of the most challenging steps and one of the most essential. The fact is that many of the counselors, or anyone else, simply do not understand and it is best to have a good “fit” with your counselor. Nevertheless, that does not necessarily mean that an average counselor provides no help. Find a way to express yourself so that the counselor understands. You must be heard. In the meantime, be on the lookout for others who can help: counselors, ministers, mentors, etc.
These are adult problems and are not easy. You are learning about the shadowy corners of the human mind and heart. The great purpose we share is the desire to help one another to avoid the self defeating behavior that seems to tempt us.

do you have a large bag? fill it with laundry/clothes, hang it somewhere,,,,, make yourself a punching bag, and “go for it”.

thats a good start. Release it in a way you arent hurting yourself or others.
At your age, you cant expect everything to go as you want. You have a long life ahead of you, you will experience good things for sure, just hang on, OK? 🙂

Im not saying dont care about her, but she is not someone who you can help. She needs a doc. Do her parents/family know?
Yeah and they’re as useless as I am. And it’s not the fact that I want to be “with her” it’s just the fact that she has been with me through all of my depression and she deserves to be happy. The guy she likes is a **** and has made her feel like shit, she knows she could have me but she won’t and it’s getting me down more than it probably should-Clappal
It might not be easy for you, but try to find an adult who does care, who can help, (school?).
If she likes a guy who treats her like crap, you will want to think twice about her as your girlfriend 😉

Maybe you should let her be. Ask yourself why she wants him.
She is the nicest person I know, I’m not even sure if she knows why she likes him but I have to face the fact that my love for her is there and will stay there for a while but thank you for your advice I may not know you but this help you’re trying to give me I really appreciate it and wish I knew more people like you-Clappal

Maybe one day she will realize how much she likes you.
My wife came crying to me 6 years ago (but in her case, she cheated). Its not like your case, but my point is that you should be there for her. She very well might want you later.
