Alright everyone. I’ve hit writers block in my book and I don’t know who else to turn to other that you guys 🙂 If I can get ANY help from ANYONE, I’d love and greatly appreciate it!!!
I’m writing about a guy and his gf and his truck crashes and they both die, and she moves on but he’s unaware of his death (yes one of THOSE books) and basically I’m thinking along the lines of, dead people can recall and relive memories almost exactly and he comes across this old man who’s dead but hasn’t passed on and the guy keeps recalling the time when he met his gf and sees something in a newspaper a guy in the memory was reading about the old guy (the one he’s talking to) dying and then he realizes that he’s dead and I’m not exactly sure where it’s supposed to go -.-
This sounds like something like in the newest book by Nicholas Sparks “The Longest Ride” That’s kind of how it goes. But of course yours is wholly original and of your own interests.
Since there needs to be conflict (in order to accomplish the ultimate goal) then there could a) be a memory conflict, where he’s struggling through one of his memories. Such as losing his girlfriend at one point. Or b) Since he realizes he’s dead, well if his girlfriends dead, then maybe they’re in the same place? Whatever you believe in after death, it can either be specific or not specific. Or there’s C) If he’s dead but his girlfriend is NOt, then maybe he can find a way to reach out to her. Maybe he can find a way to show her those memories and how good they were. So that she can die in peace.
There are many roads a book can go just off one sentence. I’m sure we both know that (I’m a writer too). So the way I was taught to get past writers block is to look what’s at the end of your road. How do you want the story to end? What is a situation that can lead to that?
Sorry if that didn’t help. But I wish you the best of luck on your book!
