As a typical human tendency, those who get a taste of power will crave more.
But even they are slaves, to an insatiable desire… and they will often be blinded by that desire, to the point of not realizing that they could use their power to make everyone’s lives better, instead of compromising so many other lives for merely the sake of their own. While i find the many transgressions of the powerful quite reprehensible, i caution myself against dehumanizing them… because that is the same mistake they have made. I have to pity them for having such a huge advantage, but still not understanding or appreciating the value of each human life, and without that understanding and appreciation, they are doomed to sacrifice others for their own insatiable desires. Their addiction to that power, born of insecurity, causes them to create even more of what generates those very insecurities which create and maintain their addiction. They use their privilege to make dehumanized enemies of the world, instead of using their power for harmony and prosperity for all. They don’t owe us… but they choose to use their power to perpetuate a system built on oppression and destruction, because they are so insecure and frightened by their own created enemies, that they believe perpetuating conflict is the only way they can profit and retain their privilege to do so. They can’t trust anyone to not encroach upon them, should they lose their power and become defenseless… because they can’t trust or even control themselves well enough to refrain from using their privilege to take and abuse more and more power. It’s a type of madness.
If everyone would work together toward what is right, knowing that those maddened with power would kill to stop us… we could overwhelm them quite easily, and destroy their ability to impose injustice upon us all. But people are afraid to die without accomplishing what is worth both living and dying for, and so they reluctantly submit to oppression, in hopes that they survive long enough as a slave, that one day, someday, perhaps, they might encounter the opportunity to act, in unison with enough others, to actually accomplish that greater good goal.
People don’t want to just suffer and die for nothing; they want to live for something worth dying for. Those mad power addicts know and exploit this, because they know we will depose them the instant we can, and they will have to surrender their power, or die; or both.
Even Life is a slave to itself, a slave to the cycle of death just as death is a slave to life
Life requires the sacrifice of life.
We are all a slave to the fact that life lives off life and nothing we do or don’t do change that reality! So can look this reality in the face others run from it.
