It’s like I’m destined to feel this desperate and guilty my whole life. Jesus please save me, help me, show me, do something to let me know you’re there and not just a story for us to feel good about. I want to meet you when I die, not a black void.
When things get down, its easy to think, “God, where are you?†In times of despondency, its common to hear the thoughts that say, “You’ve made too many mistakes. God isn’t interested in your pain. If He was, then surely you would’ve been healed, restored and renewed by now.†When these thoughts come, and they always do, dwell on the promise made in the bible: Weeping may endure for a night, but joy is coming in the morning. A small sparrow cannot fall to the ground without God knowing. He sees every lonely night, every tear you’ve shed, and every thought of suicide you’ve had.
In the scripture, Jesus tells his disciples prior to setting of to Galilee, that he must go through Samaria. When he arrived, he came upon a well and sat down near it. While alone, a Samaritan woman approaches the well to draw water. Long story short, Jesus speaks to this woman and later reveals himself as the messiah. It’s funny. This Samaritan woman had been married five times. She wasn’t pious. She lived a rough life, and was undoubtedly shunned by virtually everyone in the village. However, she was the first person Jesus revealed himself as the messiah. When he said, “I must go through Samaria,†it was to speak to this woman, and to assure her that she had been forgiven. When we make a mistake, it’s so easy to think that God is so far from us. I blew it; God wouldn’t ever want anything to do with me. In reality, it’s just the opposite. He’ll travel through dangerous territory (Samaria was dangerous for Jesus) just to make sure you aren’t feeling condemned. Receive his mercy. Go out each day expecting His goodness. Do this, and I promise you one day there will be no more tears, suicidal thoughts, or feelings of despondency. You’re best days are still out in front of you. Jesus is there with you, I know it.
Thank you Strife. Staying strong in my faith has been a battle itself, and has in a way contributed to the suicidal thoughts and depression simply because I feel like God has left me and I don’t deserve his grace. But as I struggle in my faith, I’m trying to help others too…to remind them God still loves us…he hasn’t gone anywhere.
I remember that story in the bible. And after you had said Jesus only went through Samaria to speak to the woman and comfort her.
Maybe I’ll run into God in the place I least expect it.
I believe that you will. If God cares for the birds of the air, how much more do you think he cares about you? Dare to believe. God is not in heaven saying, “On this day, my daughter is going to do something that is too much for my mercy.” Believe that your forgiven. I’ve seen your art. You truly have a gift. I’m not just saying that either!
You’re so right. In time, I think my mind will become in sync with my spirit and truly begin to believe again.
Gee Strife, I’m glad you like my art. I’ll have to get back into it. Maybe doing some faith-themed art might help me…or at least draw something less macabre…like a flower, haha.
Faith-themed art is boring! Try throwing something together that’ll bring a laugh. I’m a lot like you, I have a lot of experience with Photoshop/Illustrator. I usually do logos, banners or small game content, though. Nothing too big. When I’m playing around, I usually photoshop some funny stuff together.
Anime’s not that bad! I mean, the whole “cat-girl” thing is a little too much for me, but I have seen some pretty cool drawings. I’m a game design student, so seeing some of the stuff that people do (character design/ concept art) is where I get some of my inspiration. It’s actually been some time before I’ve logged in there. I’ll send you some of my work. Don’t laugh!

I’m seeking the holy spirit, too, buscetti.
I wish you luck with that. I know he’s there….it’s just that we got to get past our clouded judgment and warped views and demons to really see him.
I know he’s there. I’m just trying to reach now.

Boring? Not if it’s a Medieval Crusader bashing in a demon’s head via axe blessed with holy water! 😉
Hey, maybe you should look into making a Deviantart account. Your kind of stuff is a breath of fresh air from the floods of anime that site gets 😐
