And meds come in varios doses and combos. You gotta try different drs too. Trust me. Mix up the drs. I tried five drs in five years and I know all the meds and combos. I’m a pro! You gotta push them and tell them what uou want to try and when you want to add meds and when you want higher of this or that. They always honor my requests. But the key is to go every month cuz they are getting paid. Insurance great. No insurance then use sliding scales. Or welfare. It’s easy. If you let me I’ll help
Ok. That’s one of mine too. Now you can akways ask to max out on the meds and see how you feel before you try another one and ask the dr and akso ask the pharmacy so you know the max. So they have pristiq. Celexa. Buspar. Effexor. Zoloft. Lexapro. Wellbutrin. Paxil. Cymbalta
Those are the most popular. Pristiq and effexor work realky well for women. My recommendation is to always take the max dose of any med of an anti depressant. And Abilify is also one I didn’t mention. It works really well when added to something you are already taking. It usually works best around ten mg. they start you at two I think.
Keckis, I’m glad you found that meds and therapy worked for you but keep in mind that those things don’t work for everyone.
A long time ago I went through different meds, all ending up at max or near max before they moved me to the next one, and dealt with numerous doctors and counselors, but none of that ever helped. In fact the exaggerated side effects from the meds and the forced hospitalizations eventually swore me off both forever.
It can be helpful to a lot of people I agree, but it’s not something that always works either. Though there are common themes, depression is still unique for each person.
Some people are also misdiagnosed with depression when they have bipolar or ptsd and regular depression meds will not work if you have either of those as I do. So that’s why it is important to stay on top of your own mental health and to continue to seek help and change drs if you’re not satisfied. It took me from age twelve to 42 to get the proper diagnosis and treatment and I’ve tried over fifty meds in multiple combos many meds the same time but with differ doses and combos. Meds do work. And specialized counseling to what you’ve been diagnosed with whether you were physically abused or sexually abused or you sbused drugs or alcohol or were bullied or had an eating disorder or low self esteem or snger management etc that helps too. Just letting other people say this is what you need and trying it and it not working and saying oh it didnt work and giving up isn’t me. I pushed on for years and years. With insurance and without.
