I came to the Golden Gate today, I had all the time in the world to jump and my hands just couldn’t let me go over the rails. I want to die, I want the end to come, but is it my survival instincts kicking in?
I’ve also been to a bridge many times. Matter of fact I live on the 7th floor of a 16 story building. I can take the elevator up and be done in a matter of minutes!! MINUTES! Ya, it’s that initial leap over the edge. Maybe a practice bungie chord jump. Then the real jump. Hmm..
I’ve stood on the Golden Gate many times. A percentage of jumpers survive but survive as paraplegics or more frequently, paralyzed to the point of needing permanent breathing assistance. The cops say that every survivor they’ve talked to says that as soon as they jumped they regretted doing so.
The bridge is romantic, famous for its lure of suicidal amenities and at a glance seems to be the perfect way to go. Various things have stopped me each time I’ve visited the bridge. But mostly I regret not going through with it when I had the opportunity.
