It is. When my depression took turn for worse, gradually all ideas left me, starting with a book I’ve been planning and writing for 5 years, then with pencil drawings, painting and music creation. I still have poetry but even that is blocked more times than not.
Have you tried painting your emotions? Not something literal, just an abstraction full of colours and sensations. It has its charm.
From more physical things, maybe still life or faces of people that are close to you. I used to be more of an abstract painter, so I can give you topics like sadness-happiness progression, dark-bright contrast, lost in thoughts, broken wings, the world fragile like glass, time relativity. Once during especially silly moment I painted sculpture made from shoes because why not?
