Keep your nails short. With nail clippers, not biting (if you do bite nails) to avoid a sharp end. Wearing gloves so you can’t pick either. I’ve found being around people will keep me from picking for the most part, as its something I’m ashamed of and dont want others to know.
Please share any advice your therapist offers. I’ve noticed it’s something I’m more likely to do when particularly stressed or anxious, but breaking the habit again once that period is difficult for me.
Oh, and treating your wounds. Picking can delay healing but adding something like Neosporin (although theres mixed feelings on that ointment, theres a school of thought a moist wound heals quicker) can still help. Additionally keeping the wound moist with something like that, and putting a bandage over it will keep the scab from forming and prevent further picking by simply removing the source. Depending on the wound location that’s not always viable, but in many cases it is.
Thank you for replying. Unfortunately I pick at my scalp. My therapist suggested putting a rubber band on my wrist and snapping it when I get the urge to pick.
