Is a night of hell. I can’t understand how if pandemics are starting to wane and as a consequence pubs have reopened then everything is all right with the world. Most cultures/ nationalities don’t celebrate alcohol/drunkeness in the first place. Most countries don’t have a drinking culture. When I was in South America there was no drinking culture, there was sensational steak bife di chorizio, marijuana smuggled in from the jungles of Paraguay, but one thing there was not was any celebration of alcohol.
A night out, a long nights drinking on the town is a young mans game, 18 to 25, at 25 the time has come to pull the curtain down on that behaviour. I used to go out during those years and start very early circa 5pm, on reflection thats too fucking early, and not finish til 3 or 4 am, thats too late. Always disagreements within the group about where to go, always disagreements within the group about where to get food at the end of the night, admittedly I played a leading part in these food based disagreements, I would try to steer the group towards chinese food to round the night off, a dangerous man within the group, well connected would agree with me and say ” this guys talking sense, we do need chinese food, fuck mcdonalds” and so chinese food it would be. You put a group of men together and a leader always emerges, the leader tends to hold sway over where the group goes or doesn’t go. Its no kind of fun if you leave a jacket behind in a chinese restaurant and have to go back for it the next day because the chinese in the restaurant trade remember everything, the chinese in the restaurant trade tend also to be discourteous, so when I had to rap on the door of a chinese restaurant the next day the face on the proprietress said it all. ” you very drunk last night” said the chinese proprietress, ” yes, lets not make a big deal about it, wheres that jacket?” I said. ” is big deal, another restaurant around the corner, good food, you and your friends go there next time, here your jacket” said the proprietress.
The question also turns on are you a happy drunk or a nasty drunk, I’d like to think I was a happy drunk but from time to time one or two members of the group would say otherwise, I’d normally pin the blame on shorts, pints of budweiser I could handle but when the group progressed to shorts later in the night perhaps my conduct did become questionable. More problems trying to get a taxi at 4am, some of the group wanted to carry on, some call time on the festivities, there could never be full agreement. People might think if they don’t or never did go out drinking they missed out, the reality is they missed out on nothing.

Hi! I remember you and I’m drinking right now.
I’ve always tended to drink alone, so I’ve never had any of the aforementioned problems. I’m almost 40 and think my drinking days are still going strong.
