First of all, I want to preface this post by saying that, while my problem may not come close to some of the situations you might face each day, the emotional distress, uselessness and inadequacy I feel is just as intense.
I go to a private school, where the tuition is more than many colleges. Everyone at my school is going to become a doctor or a lawyer or a fundamental physicist. I don’t want to be any of these. All i want to do is teach elementary school.  If that means that i can’t drive an audi or mercedes like my parents, thats fine. Everyday when I come home though, my parents tirade me criticism about my career choice. I can’t go to a state university…I have to go to Harvard, or Stanford, or Georgetown, or Claremont. I don’t want any of this.
At this point I am 18, I don’t need my parents permission to study what i want to, but i would love their support.
It doesn’t stop there though. It seems that every time I talk with my parents about anything, it becomes a huge fight. Yesterday, I got my dad a nice present for fathers day, but then i got bitched out for using too much money.
Whatever I do is never enough, my parents want more. I know that I sound like an idiot and a ***** complaining about it, but the emotional distress I face is very real. Last night I created my suicide video. I was going to do it last night but the one friend i have talked me out of it. It would hurt her more than anyone else in my life, and i couldn’t face that.
Please give me your advice.

First of all, you should talk this through with your parents. You need to sit down and discuss everything in an orderly manner, and make sure you are calm and collected through this. This will show them that you are a responsible adult, and you’re focused and know what you want in life. Maybe talking through it will help make your parents change their mind? If not, you could call someone with some authority who could help explain to your parents that what you choose in education is entirely up to you, not them.
Secondly, do not choose a permenant solution to a temporary problem. You’re young, with your entire life ahead of you. You have so many opportunities in life and experiences that you will be throwing away if you committed suicide.
Finally, you are never alone. There are many people all over the world who have the same problems as you do, and it is most definitely solvable.
P.S, you’re old enough to leave home now without your parents permission, so that could be your last resort if things do not work out.
DON’T COMMIT SUICIDE. Hope we’ve helped. 🙂
