I find out Thursday if I’m going to lose my house in the divorce. He has spent well over $100,000 of my money and jerks off to “Rape Galaxy,” yet is a very prominent person in the Jewish world. I’m not starting my life all over again at 50. He can have the house so my daughter can continue to be raised here. August 8 can’t come soon enough.

You make your life sound like some twisted dark comedy version of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where you always get fucked over just like Lary David.
Well, I always thought you were pretty cool Countingdown, it just seems like you’re surrounded by some unscrupulous people. 🙁
Didn’t Larry David die?
Ha! That’s why I started doing stand-up about a year ago. You can’t make this shit up, and if I didn’t have a sense of humor I’d have been dead a long time ago. The bad thing about being labeled the family ass-wad is that it takes a long time and a lot of therapy to undo the damage and in the interim we continually seek out people who will treat us like shit because that’s all we know. The good thing about being labeled the family ass-wad is that when that time does happen when we’re finally free, we’ve got nowhere to go but up. I just found this out a little too late because, man, I’m tired of fighting for crumbs. Thanks for your comment, takeeverything, I needed a little reinforcement.
“If I had no sense of humor, I would long ago have committed suicide.”
-Mahatma Gandhi
Same here. I was thinking this a couple weeks ago. Actually, I think humoring a lot of the bullshit that people with such a sense of humor do tolerate leads them to such dark corners, anyone else who wouldn’t put up with candy-ass bull viewing it from a light perspective may not have such a negative situation on their hands.
^ i.e., you can be a rock, but a rock never achieves anything.
Jung has at least one fantastic quote pertaining to that… and i think i saw one from Gandhi as well…
Lol, I just made that rock thing up, unless you were referring to the sense of humor saying.
“The Jewish world”?
You guys have your own planet?
Uh….yheah!
I’m pretty sure just about everyone has “their own world.” Lots of people’s perceived “worlds” are built from the same standardized foundations. Religion is one of the primary standardization protocols.
I will admit though, every Jew i’ve ever met, seemed to have a propensity for hilarity. My sample was rather small, but it seems compatible with the “Jews are funny” stereotype. ^^
Yes.. counting, your performing standup furthers the stereotype, I though that earlier and didn’t say anything 🙂
That’s okay, takeeverything! Yes, I’m a Jewish woman, I do stand-up, I’m a lawyer, my sister’s a doctor and crazy, my mother is a ****, I’ve been in therapy for years, and I love Chinese food. If those doesn’t satisfy the stereotype, I don’t know what does.
🙂 Do you live in New York? Lol
Ha! No…but I’m there A LOT!
Fair point. I guess for me there’s a distinction between “community” and “world.” The media often refer to the “black community” or the “Latino community” for example, but usually, they’re alluding to a specific demographic. There is no “black community,” per se, nor a “Latino community,” but there are many of each, and each is distinct. Likewise, the “Jewish community” may refer to those Jewish persons living in a particular geographic region or a particular sect of Judaism which is easily distinguishable from the others. So when I use the term, “Jewish world,” it’s not that we have our own planet (although there are a couple of moons around Jupiter and Saturn that have some potential), but rather, that my butt plug husband has a broad-based Jewish audience.
Yes, there are a LOT of funny Jewish people. I have found in my study of stand-up (yes, it has to be studied) many of the top comedians are members of some minority group.
There are some funny white comedians, Louis C.K., Daniel Tosh isn’t bad, his show used to be better, but..
Hmm, actually that might be it, I’m coming up blank for anyone else…
Let’s see, white comedians… white comedians… white comedians… white comedians…
If you haven’t seen his work, yet, check out Russell Peters on Youtube. He’s Canadian born to Indian parents (from India, not Native American) so he has a unique perspective. He’s freakin’ hilarious!
I have missed reading your posts, Counting. I wish there was something I could do to help you and maybe get you to rethink your plans. You are so lucky to have a child and she will be devastated if you are no longer around. However, I also know what you mean about not wanting to start over and being tired of fighting for crumbs. I’m tired of that too. I think about offing myself every day, but that’s because I have no family and my flaky fiance flaked off one last time after a nine year on and off again “relationship” (I use that term lightly). Anyway, the only thing I have in my life now is my job, so basically I have nothing which is not how I want to exist. But you have your daughter and other friends and family, which is certainly more valuable than anything else in this world.
Funny, C4! I didn’t want to say ‘Jewish community’ because that would have implied a small, local audience. He’s actually public figure. And a douche but he cleans up real good. But you’re right, ‘Jewish world’ is pretty goofy.
I was just curious about how the Jewish world differs from the Gentile world, that’s all. I guess there’s also a Muslim world, a Hindu world, a homeless world, a middle class suburban world, a teenaged world, a retirement world, a gay world, an Army world, an inner-city Urban world, etc.
This must be the suicidal world.
The “suicidal world!” I like it! (You actually raise an interesting idea — if we can draw a parallel between social structures and the Cosmos. Strong argument for the multi-verse theories.)
Who knew Gandhi and I had so much in common?
Hmm… he probably did, along with anyone who understands his message. 😉
Hey, silence — You’re right. My kid is AWESOME and my friends are amazing — we’ve been in each others’ lives for over 35 years. In fact, I was just talking to one of them about the preciousness of life and whether one matters. She believes in both; I do not but wish I did, My position is that seeing life as precious and viewing oneself as mattering in the world is given to us through grace. I wasn’t given that grace, but she has. Maybe next incarnation I’ll be luckier.
