I think Assisted Suicide should be legal worldwide and this is how I think it should be,
First, only people over 21 should be able to do it since you need to be 21 to legally drink you should also have to be 21 to legally sign up for assisted suicide (and also because teenager issues are sometimes mostly temporary). Second, you should sign up to be put on a waiting list for about 3 months. During that time it should be required that you see a therapist and talk about your issues and why you wish to die. And then if at the end of the 3 month waiting period you still wish to die you are scheduled for an appointment in which you will be lethally injected after you sign your will and pay a fee.
And you can bet there would be “pro-life” protesters that stand outside of the assisted suicide facilities and spit on the people coming in and out. I honestly think they should just give us the decision though. True freedom is giving someone control not just over their life but also over their death. We shouldn’t be forced to live if we don’t want to just because some group of rich people who have never been depressed a day in their life says life is worth living.
I like how that system sounds. But at the end of the day, we are putting our life’s choices and future in the hands of someone else. But that would work. Andat the same time it would be viewed as a “too easy accessible escape” people don’t realize that at the end of the day, it is your life.
Exactly. We should have the right to choose that decision for ourselves.
Hell I’m good with injecting myself, as long as I have the option to do it legally. Also, why do people in our society view dying as an “escape”. Dying is nothing, it’s the end, it’s over. It’s the endless blackness of despair where there is no conscious. Yet people still say how it’s the, “easy way out”.
THANK GOD SOMEONE ELSE HAS SAID IT!
I’ve been thinking of this for months now and I live in a state in Australia where assisted dying (or euthanasia) is about to become legal. It pains me that people with “terminal illnesses” have the right to die in some places in the world but how about those with terminal mental illnesses?
Like you said, our lives, our choice.
I’m so sick of scrambling for ways out of this life making everything so much more miserable. If your idea was in place I would have been gone a long time ago!
Mental illness is taken so lightly in some places around the world but I feel like that is an area in which we all need to unite and have uniform solidarity through and through.
We should all be given a gateway. One should decide for themselves.
Many of us would have been gone if it were the case. Sad that our wishes cannot come to pass as simply as we could hope.
Eh. Apparently it’s legal in America, but it is illegal to assist someone in states other than Oregon and some others (with a “doctor”) they treat it like it is illegal but I don’t know if all these kids should line up at assisted suicide doorsteps. Sometimes life is terrible though, just like the world.
It should be legal/optional/less frowned upon. We didn’t choose to be born into this hell hole. We had no say in the matter. In fact i REFUSE to reproduce knowing that child would have a chance of being anything like me or feeling anything like i feel. Its just not fair. But why do we care so much if its legal?? We will be dead anyway? My biggest fear is failure and at this point that is all thats holding me back.
I agree, I won’t ever put a kid into this world knowing he might have to go through what I did. But the reason I’d like it to be legal would be the fact that we would have access to a more reliable means. Instead of having to blow your brains out or hang yourself or jump off a building and endangering others hoping your plan works you would be able to just inject yourself and go to sleep forever. Plus, if it’s legal you’ll be able to go out in peace and not have to worry about someone calling the police on you or getting locked up if your plan fails.
I also agree shotguns and hanging and overdose should not be norm ..1 suicide ever 12.8 minutes. People are itching for ********. They want to go with peace. If you could get and distribute to suicidal people you would make a lot of money/
I wouldn’t put a kid into this world either. i wouldn’t want anyone to go through what I have gone through, or worse. Or even worse. If N was readily available, I don’t even know if SP would have be a platform big enough, most of us would be gone.
I read that the top ten causes of death in the US every year add up to 2.08 million deaths. Suicides are dead last (no pun intended) on that list and account for just .044 million deaths. So here we are with suicides doing just 2.1 percent of the dying and doing it willingly. Seems strange to even interfere with it, on any level.
Speaking of strange: we have a right, as competent adults, to refuse any unwanted medical service even if it would lead to our death, yet, we cannot choose death itself unless we hide it from authorities and use one of the few accessible working means (typically violent) still available. Inscrutable!
Don’t know if you’ve heard this but the number of suicides in Guyana is incomprehensible. I’m like should I move there? 2015 I was planning to get one way ticket to Suicide Forest before they all went and produced that “movie.” I’m like sell everything I own get one way and go to forest to rot. Nobody seemed pleased with my plan to up and leave. Never asked permission though.
It doesn’t matter if suicide is legal or not.
Successful suiciders don’t have to worry about being prosecuted. (You’re dead. What are they gonna do to you)?
True. But just as WhySkyEnd said, it will give those who are alive now more reliable and quick methods to do it without having the trouble of failed attempts and doing it illegally.
“Try? There is no try. Do or do not”. – Yoda
I don’t typically follow? the advice of puppets, but Yoda was right. If you’re gonna do something (and you’re able to do it), just do it without asking others for assistance.
(Not encouraging or promoting suicide here).
There are 2 totally different debates on this subject. The first, about whether suicide is legal/illegal was settled decades ago when suicide was de-criminalized back in the 80s. A few states (USA) and a few countries in the world might still make suicide attempts punishable, but for the most part it’s legal. Frowned upon and shamed, but legal. Google it if you don’t believe me.
The 2nd debate is whether physicians should be allowed to kill people. Stepping outside my personal desire to die for a minute, my stance would be HELL NO. Doctors suck as it is, and it turns my stomach to think an industry will spring up around suicide. An industry that profits from killing vulnerable people. Suicide should be a final act of strength, of taking command. No hand-holding, this is the real deal. When the time comes I’ll end my life on my own terms by myself. Sure it’ll be messy and difficult, but that’ll prove that I’ve earned my death. And that moment will be the greatest victory I’ve ever known.
I totally understand what stand you take on the whole doctors debate. Setting aside the whole issue if the industries will be profiting, it is the ones who are have nothing more to live for who are also profiting. But does anyone really earn their death? whether through suicide or not. It’s inevitable. It’s not really about accomplishing it, it’s more like, our inevitable end assisted by ones own doing.
Your life, your choice—I agree completely. The reason that it is illegal is that the Gov. can not tax you if you are dead. Fewer people mean less money for the Gov.
Good topic!!

Makes sense. I would love that injection.
