Screams
Screams no one can hear
In the darkness there is silence and fear
The shouts uttered by a madman
Heard throughout the ward
He is the forgotten one
The one whose lost all hope
There’s nothing anyone can do
To help him cope with his pain
He talks to himself
His brain and body taking sides
Of his split personality:
One to live. One to die.Â
The voices in his head
Tell him he should be dead
And half his will wishes to oblige
Yet the memories of his friends
Keep him moving to mend his life
And live another day.Â
He’s got nothing left
Nothing left to hide
But he has still one conviction
No one may see him cry.Â
No tears shall leave his eyes
For he made a promise to himself
One that can drown out all his lies:
That no matter how long he has to suffer
No matter how much the pain cripples him
Regardless of stability or insanity
He shall not let the tears win.Â
His body torn, his mind long gone
All he can do is remember the songs
That keep him rooted to the ground
But soon he foundÂ
They wouldn’t let him keep them.Â
Chained to his bed with a mask around his head he screams
He tries to move, tries to breathe
But no one is there to listen.Â
With all his strength
The will of a lunaticÂ
He finds a way to break free
Only to be restrained once more
By the white coats of ward B.Â
He is strong yet he is weak
He needs no help yet he is lost without guidance
And so now everyone at the asylum
Has heard my screams
For I am he and he is me
We share the same reality
And although I’ve left that hellish place
I can still hear my screams. Â
