There is a man, clad in black
Who follows me around
Wherever I go
He is feared by many
But not by meâ€”not usually
He used to follow me from a distance
Teasing me, staying just out of sight
But now, whenever I turn my head
I see him looking over my shoulder
Always there, a silent companion,
A guardian, I pray
My dear silent companion
Bold and unafraid
I cannot seem to shake him
No matter where I hide or turn
But I want him to stay;
Without him Iâ€™m afraid

I hate him when I lie awake

Chapter 1: Paradise Lost

Looking out into the horizon, the sun slowly disappeared, it’s warm embrace being replaced by the cool, quiet moon. The sky, once blue and vast, changed to orange, red and purple and then to black, then allowing the stars to shine through. Looking down, she saw the foggy depths of the abyss, but the familiar sound of waves crashing could be heard. Down there, one could fall and die after splattering among jagged rocks, or even survive and end up in the water, just to wash up on shore and try to get back home tired and groggy. The idea of killing myself is becoming more and more frequent, the plans, the ideas, the notes.. I have written so many of them.
If only she could see that I am suffering without her.. That I am lost, hopeless.. alone. Life seems so meaningless, so insignificant. My mind has sunk deep into an abyss of sadness and sorrow. I don’t know how much more I can take.

just sad.

Right now I feel sad. For the first time in ages, I’m not angry, not depressed, not even numb and barely suicidal.

Just sad.

But I feel worse than usual because of that.

Because I know that all it will take to cheer me up is a hug from the right person for the right length of time.

I just want someone to hold me, really hold me.

Not a brief hug, not a surprise hug, just a long, warm embrace.

And what kills me right now is that there’s no one I can hug in that way right now.

And there hasn’t been for years.
