Hi,
I’ve always known this was the next step. Since I started thinking about it though I’ve been scared. It’s been 7 years since I first thought about talking to someone, but I figured there were more cons than pros with it. I decided not to risk it because I didn’t really know what it was going to be like. My mother would get overly involved and I don’t even want her to be tipped off that I’m going in the first place. I also don’t want to get there and be a crying wreck. I just don’t know what to expect and it makes me not even want to try. Its been getting worse lately. This feeling of just wanting everything to be over – I get overwhelmed with pain and depressed thoughts that I don’t know what to do with myself. Its always been like this since I was really young but lately its been getting so much worse – rapidly. Its scaring me and I just want to know the absolute truth about counselling and therapy. If it works for all or if it really does just matter on the person. I don’t want to put myself through more life questions and uncertainty with this. I just want it to go away. I want to feel normal again. Does Counselling even work?

greygirl,
HAVE NO IDEA! but just like any thing else like a barber one could give you a good hair cut and other might make you look like shit!!!! don’t be afraid to say you know i think i should talk to someone else if they don’t sound like they know what they are talking about.
It worked for me, it took a few months. Good luck
No councelling doesnt work…they didnt help me especially at a mental hospital…its like being a caged animal….no escape.
Just like most things, it comes down to the right person. Some councillors are a better fit with certain patients, so it’s important that you don’t write off the whole proffession just because of one bad experience with one person.
A few things:
1. You’re going to have much better success if you are open minded to the idea.
2. Don’t be afraid to switch councillors if you feel one isn’t working for you.
I think it really helps to talk to someone. Good luck!
It will work for some, not for others.
If you’re one that it could work for… it won’t be a quick fix. It will depend on whether you click with the person or not. It will also depend on your attitude.
I struggle with the last one.
it wont hurt to try, be open and give it some time, it will depend on you ant the councillor but i defo learned some good things and gained new insights.
