By now you might have seen on the Internet the story of one “Jeremy Meeks” who has recently gained a reputation as “Hot Felon.” He has been the center of much attention after his mugshot was released showing what many consider to be a very attractive face. The purpose of my writing here is not to take a shot at Mr. Meeks. I hope that he will receive whatever punishment his crimes are due, certainly that he should repay his thefts, and other than that I have no concern towards him. It is what this man’s story has revealed so clearly about our deranged and unjust society, which I take interest in. My blood does not boil at the thought of Mr. Meek’s stealing somebodys car, or whatever he did, although that I certainly find it very important that he is made to compensate the victim for whatever he took. But what does make my blood boil is the social response that he is getting, and the glaring injustice it reveals about the world we live in.
The headlines read as such: “Women lust over model-like US felon’s mugshot”. His mugshot photo is receiving thousands of “likes” and glowing comments from women on facebook all about how “hot” he is and people raising money to pay his bail or whatever it’s called. That is ALL THESE WOMEN CARE ABOUT. How “hot” he is. Mr. Meeks should be greatly offended that according to all these thousands of lustful women, he is nothing more than a nice-looking slab of meat that they’d like to be “handcuffed to”. Although we must wonder how much fun that might turn out to be as this man has been described as “violent.” But I digress. I am a woman and I am appalled. I am appalled with a society that cares only about looks. That fawns over the criminal who deserves to face justice. That all the while hates and tortures the innocent disfigured like me, who have DONE NO CRIME. If this man were ugly, there would be no fawning comments, no offers of money, no public sympathy, but only pure and raw wrath and hatred beyond comprehension.
This news story came to bear at the same time in which I am reading the section of Victor Hugos’ wonderful novel, “Notre Dame”. I am right at the scene where disfigured, innocent Quasimodo, a deformed and deaf hunchback, is locked in the pillory, being ripped apart by a whip, bleeding, calling out for water, all the while being laughed at and scorned by the good people of society who throw stones and jeers at him. Quasimodo’s crime? His existence. His unnatural, “savage” behavior that occurs from having an abnormal construction of form and mind. His abnormalities. His appearance. His appearance inspires the wrath and hatred of almost everyone of the “good society” of Paris. Being one like Mr. Quasimodo here, I can just as easily imagine the same thing happening to me. My existence has inspired the same wrath, the same malice, the same need that “good people” feel to crush what is physically undesirable. And yet who has shown themselves to be the real menace to society? Mr. Meeks, or “Quasimodo”?
Make no mistake that our society is no different. It is seething evil at its core and ready at a moments notice to erupt violence upon the innocent while embracing the guilty. It insists on spilling the blood of Jesus while inviting Barrabas to supper, so to speak. Because the evil people of this evil world, love their own.

I agree wholeheartedly. I wish i wasnt evil. I wish i could be the difference. I wish you didnt have to suffer anymore. I hope there is a better world for all of us one day.
Hi rach. I had been wondering if you were still out there somewhere. I suppose it’s bittersweet to see anyone here.
I also saw the shameful media spectacle made over “hot mugshot.” I didn’t even have to dig any deeper; i saw the headline and the mugshot, and immediately knew all i needed to know… which i ultimately already knew.
I’ll quote fight club: “i am jack’s complete lack of surprise.”
Not everyone is like that, but it literally makes me feel physically ill, painfully disgusted, to estimate the staggering amount of people who are like that.
But you know, i don’t think “too many stupid people exist” is a fair reason for me to off myself. I’d prefer to ignore and avoid all of “those people,” and hopefully find some people worth knowing, and share my life with them, while denying everyone else i deem unworthy.
You claim to have mental deficiencies, and maybe you do, but i wanted you to know that i think you display above average, even exceptional comprehension and articulation. You’re not crazy or stupid, and you’re not worthless.
I don’t know who that is. When you’ve been the victim at least once in your life you see the world differently.
People on here always say the world is a bad, superficial place where nobody cares about anybody. It’s like that in the industrial/commercial cities. It’s not like that in the rural areas. When you look at the demographics a pattern emerges and there is a problem because the most thoughtful people (generally) live in places with the lowest population, fewest ethnic minorities and higher median age. Not everywhere is bad.
Not to call you out or anything Duke, but i knew people like that when i lived in a rural area in my teens. And i mean several miles from the town’s (previously) single traffic light, rural (just a few years ago they finally installed a second one!). There weren’t a lot of very thoughtful people there, from what i could tell… and while the general populace did have their prejudices and other issues, i would still have to say they were on average kinder and, “more human,” than the people i’ve encountered while living in any of the urban and suburban areas i’ve resided. Some of the coolest people i’ve ever met, came from that rural area, or another rural or semi-rural area elsewhere.
It seems that industrial/commercial cities are full of sociopaths, shallow, superficial, materialistic, greedy… but it’s certainly not everyone, and i wouldn’t even say 9/10. Probably something like 6-7/10 though, which is too high for me… which is probably why “the most thoughtful people (generally) live in places with the lowest population.” They are thoughtful enough to figure out that it’s the environment that’s the problem, not necessarily that people are just inherently “bad.” Or, they give up on trying to find the good ones, and move away from everyone entirely.
I will say, though, that mainstream media, and particularly the innumerable internet tabloid/gossip sites, make this particular issue seem far worse than i think it actually is. It’s kinda like how youtube comments have been said to be a shining example of just how disgusting humanity really is. But some of them stand as a shining example of exactly the opposite, as well. We tend to disregard the good and embellish the bad… and i’m not sure why.
But with the internet, people need traffic to get ad views and ad clicks, and hopefully conversions… so it’s all about hype and controversy, and so quite often (perhaps “most of the time”), people emphasize the most upsetting or disturbing aspects of whatever, in order to generate “buzz,” so that they can profit. But this isn’t new with the internet; people have been doing exactly this, throughout human history. Ever heard of “Reefer Madness!”? Ever heard of Christianity? (lol)
Not sure if you actually mean that last paragraph as I understood it… that last sentence!? Someone must have hacked your account.
which part? Was it the part where i said “people emphasize the most upsetting or disturbing aspects of whatever…”? They definitely do this. Turn on any news channel (or site) and you’ll see it. I just got done looking at “abcnews” and it was full of it (lulz double meaning).
Reefer Madness was a propaganda film created to scare people into hating the evil “marijuana” (which is a word chosen to trigger negative bias, based on existing anti-mexican/hispanic prejudice at the time).
Christianity (and various others) employs terrifying stories of “hell” to essentially coerce people into compliance… because who wants to go to hell amirite?
People often emphasize the negatives and diminish the positives. Sometimes it’s subconscious, sometimes it’s intentional.
Still me. ^^
Okay this is more like what I expected you to say. For one moment I actually thought you were saying: “people emphasize the most upsetting or disturbing aspects of [Christianity], in order to generate “buzz,” so that they can profit”. But this clarifies it.
Anyways, I agree that Christian leaders used to use hell and similar images to make people convert to their faith. Fortunately since the beginning of the 20th century this has been reduced to a minimum. And yes, I disagree with pretty much of what the church as an institution still does today, but the church is not equal to it’s members, and (like you explicitly said in your post) one should not judge a group by some bad examples (ia lavish bishops or pedophile priests).
Honestly, i typically view “faithers” as victims of a corrupt establishment. I get very frustrated with them sometimes, but the real problem is the leaders of those organizations, not the people who have had those things beaten into their skulls their entire lives (often literally).
Plus, hey, the more members you get to join, the heavier the collection plates will be. Scare them into agreeing to a tax? Sounds like government!
I think if any type of god worthy of that name exists, he’d be disgusted with humanity. Maybe we’re all being punished for the misdeeds of a few.
Something i randomly realized yesterday: “Sin” means “without” in Spanish. So… all that talk of “sin,” is really just saying “you’re without god!” Of course i am. Of course. We’re all “born in sin,” aka “born without” or “born in absence.”
Idk, seems like some potentially valid hidden church symbolism… 😉
Well, victim implies that I have disadvantages because I’m member of a church.
“but the real problem is the leaders of those organizations”
“Scare them into agreeing to a tax? Sounds like government!”
“I think if any type of god worthy of that name exists, he’d be disgusted with humanity.”
Like I said, I disagree with many things church officials do. Still, the most things I witness from church are the local church, the local parish and local priests. And they are neither corrupt nor pedophiles nor lavish or whatever bad example you may find in Christianity.
I am as pissed at church officials as you are, because they throw such a bad light at Christians in general. It really makes me mad. A few years ago when some of our local parishes merged we had a poll about what the new name of the parish should be and there was a huge lead for one option, but our bishop decided that he didn’t like that option and went for another one. Just why.
And the word sin meaning ‘without’ makes total sense to me; when you sin you are “without God” or away from God or what God wants you to behave like.
In this context, victim was only meant to imply that wrongs (more specifically, deception) have been perpetrated against you, not necessarily implying you’ve received any actual disadvantage from it. I could be a “victim” of verbal assault… and it probably wouldn’t even ruin my day; maybe a few minutes of it. 🙂
I could say the same about all americans: we’re all victims of a corrupt establishment, to varying degrees; some much more or less than others; some even in conjunction with perceived benefits. Which reminds me of an analogy i was thinking about earlier… but i’ll save that for later.
The sin thing is likely an invalid correlation, but i have no idea really, it just struck me as a somewhat ironic likely coincidence. I don’t think the word “sin” originated in the Spanish languages… but maybe that’s a loan word? Or maybe it’s a shared lexeme?
Wikipedia: “The Biblical terms that have been translated from Greek and Hebrew as “sin” or “syn” originate in archery and literally refer to missing the “gold” at the centre of a target”
‘Missing’ and ‘without’ are pretty similar words by their meaning, so I guess that could be the connection between Spanish sin and biblical sin. I’m not a linguist, but it makes sense somehow 😉
I’ve always supported the underdog and equality is one of my fundamental beliefs. I didn’t want to come to the conclusion that I have. England is different to other countries. Whenever I go to places like Shrewsbury and any English people on this site will know what I’m talking about, people there are just lovely. You walk around town and people are genuine, helpful and it’s just nice. In fact, everyone on this site would love it there. Now, that’s not a million miles away from Birmingham, our second city which is a terrible place. If people are being honest, even if they don’t fit into that category they should at least acknowledge what I’m saying. Just because they perceive others to have more than them or something they don’t have they shouldn’t be jealous. The Queen and Prince Charles are not to blame for the problems in society ok, so just leave them alone.
You can be educated (have academic qualifications) but it doesn’t necessarily make you a thoughtful person. You can be rich but it doesn’t buy you class because even a homeless person can have class.
I’ve travelled all over the country and met all sorts of people. There are a lot of people on this site who feel rejected and disheartened for all sorts of reasons. They shouldn’t stop being good people but life is about percentages. You’ve got to go where you think you might have the best chance.
Yeah, if you live in the countryside where people are a little backward then I can understand your point Clevername but this is England and we don’t have that here.
Well, to be fair, it was Texas, after all… and, well, native texans are notorious for being egomaniacs. They’re very proud of their square footage.
Shrewsbury does sound nice. Although i only have your brief and vague description to go on. 😉
Hmm… i wasn’t really disagreeing, Duke. I suppose my point was that even those rural areas have people who belong in industrial/commercial ones. Or perhaps the real point is that even rural areas have industry and commerce. It’s just that where there’s more space per capita, people are less often forced to deal with those they dislike… which probably makes for less disgruntled people.
It’s all media hype and internet sharing by stupid people. If even one of those women who adore this violent cutie were to experience who he really is, she’d shit in her pants. That is, if she still had them on.
haha…
Speaking of which, while i was on abcnews, i saw one of those stupid lists that people make…
“17 mugshots hotter than Meeks”
… sigh. I suppose this is the beginning of another surge of “prison culture” popularity, where people seem to think prison is somehow “cool.”
The world is full of prejudices… And it is the most vulnerable who are hit on the head. By whom? Quite often by those who are supposed to help or profess to help (-> hypocrites). You are right, rach, the world is evil, mainly because of human beings. Nature is beautiful, even stunning, but of course human beings are destroying it too.
It is my second sleepless night, and now that I remembered the birthday of an &#(*$&#) I guess I have a third sleepless night ahead.
Hey Rach
I’m from new zealand and I saw that dude on our news, in our top news headlines like WTF?
why is this even news? Who the hell even cares? I was really angry even the woman news presenters getting excited over his pic. I don’t hate him though, it’s the woman that I HATE stupid pathetic dumb whores! seriously some woman need a good bashing just for simply being stupid.
Suarez is a very bad man
@soulsister I know. We should start sending these “hot criminals” to live in the homes of their women admirers. You love him so much, why, take him to your home, pay for his food so society doesn’t have to, he’s all yours, good luck sleeping at night. He’ll probably steal everything in sight and leave you in a bloody heap on the floor but it’s all ok, remember, because he’s so beautiful.
why maybe he bit off than he could chew class player
