Humanity seems to believe the absurd ideology that all humans are created equal. Therefore, when someone has something like ADHD, or some other disorder, be it mental or physical, of course others will try to ostracise them! We’re raised in a society that says everyone is the same, and that people can do anything if they set their minds to it. This society is fucked up. Many “disorders” or “syndromes” aren’t detrimental at all, but rather, they’re different ways of acting and perceiving. Why can’t they be respected as such, and why do people with these differences have to be seen as inferior to others in society? Then again, this is a society based almost solely off of money and outward appearance, so I guess it’s not too much of a surprise.

I am in agreement with you. I believe equality means we are all given equal opportunities despite being different. Equality is a mind set of acceptance of differences and understanding them, not trying to put everyone in one category that is ‘the same’. Not sure if this is a response you were looking for but I’m just stating my opinion that was sparked by your post.
There are different connotations to that idea of equality – financial equality, social equality, civic equality, equality of worth… you wouldn’t think a janitor is equally capable of performing brain surgery for the same reason you shouldn’t think all people being equal implies they’re all the same. But in a sense everyone is the same; we’re all free-floating, isolated perspectives with the same innate qualities. Just some people use some qualities more than others and so become different. Different can be good or bad, depending on the perspective, but generally speaking, people are afraid of different. If it doesn’t fall within the spectrum of their carefully defined, well-explored focus of reality, it’s strange, wild, unusual, maybe even mystical.
If you want to throw a normal person into a mental tizzy, especially office people, or anyone who has a narrow band of specialization, just ask them how a refrigerator works. They might have some basic idea about it, but the practical reality is, they throw food in there and the food stays cold. When the food no longer stays cold, well, damn, the fridge needs replacing. Everyone is an idiot, including me. Take outside perspectives with a grain of salt because nobody knows anything outside their own perspective.
I really like everything you said in that reply xanadu. i find equality such an interesting topic.
