You Killing you, Is Killing Me

You are in a tough situation and I am sorry. If you give your meds to your dad then don’t you have to explain to your doctor why you come up short at the end of the month or need early refills because you run out of medication? I don’t know what specific drug your dad is after but if it’s opiates (like pain meds) or benzos (like valium, klonopin, ativan for anxiety) those are controlled and this dance can get both of you in hot water.

Letting your dad take your meds from you puts you in the equation as an enabler. Interventions rarely work and the bottom line is if he wants what you have he’ll find a way to get it from you. One thing you can try if you haven’t already is to ask your doctor to try and find a different medication that still helps you but isn’t as addictive or doesn’t produce a high so you don’t have what your dad wants. He would probably find what he wants somewhere else but at least you wouldn’t be going without or being pressured to give your meds to him.

You dad is really endangering you and your sister by using and taking your meds. And it is a crime. All this will eventually catch up with him in a bad way but if he can get into recovery before the shit hits the fan it minimizes the risk to you and your sister. You just may have to take a stand ad tell him if he hates you for doing the right thing then so be it. I just hope there is a solution you can find before things get really bad for you. I think it would be good to talk to your doctor anyway and explain the situation – something has to change and the sooner the better.

I wish I had a better or easier answer for you – you just have to do whatever you need to do to take care of yourself and your sister.
