OMG. I’m exactly the same way when I’m surrounded by noise.
It’s a pet peeve of mine when adults don’t teach kids the difference between indoor/outdoor voice.
The kids end up shouting every sentence, and they never get corrected for it.
The adult needs to stop the child and say something like “Whoa. Wait. That’s too loud. I need you to speak softer. It’s not ok to shout in here.”
Same goes for repeating themselves over and over and over and over.
It seems they like doing this when the adult is busy talking to someone else.
The adult needs to say “Stop. Please wait until I’m done talking to [other person]. It isn’t nice to interrupt. Please be polite.”
Whenever I get the strength to go out in public, I see a LOT of kids who have awful manners like that. I’ve noticed that the parents don’t even seem to notice what’s happening. They often just let the kid make as much noise as he/she wants, regardless of how many other people are getting tired of hearing it.
I realize this makes me sounds like an old fart, but holy crap; there’s no discipline these days.
Kids are going to grow up loud and rude if nobody makes an effort to train them better.
When I was a little one, my father was a very austere man (probably because he was very young when I was born, scarcely 18. Didn’t even want a child.) and reprimanded me harshly whenever I was loud or hyperactive or impolite or otherwise misbehaving. And although I never liked his harsh discipline, I appreciate these ingrained mannerisms now that I’m older. They earn me a lot of unexpected compliments. 🙂
Anyway, physical punishment for children is apparently frowned upon now. That’s why kids are starting to get brattier and brattier. Spare the rod…
As for my little sister, she lives with two elderly folk who have trouble giving her the attention she needs. So even though she is the only child in her house and therefore very spoiled, she’s also kind of attention-starved. That’s why I think she’s always so loud and feels the need to repeat herself constantly.
I agree about the lack of discipline being the reason why kids are brattier than ever.
Although, when I used the word “discipline”, I don’t necessarily mean a spanking (although sometimes that’s definitely what is needed).
I think of the word “discipline” in terms of “training”.
Gradually training proper behavior, and kindly correcting improper behavior and outbursts and whatever.
If a kid is shouting way too loud indoors, for example, an adult could sit down and carefully say “Shhhh. Listen to how loud your voice is. It’s too loud, and when we’re indoors, that’s against the rules, ok? When we’re indoors, we speak softer than that. That’s part of being polite, and it’s very important to learn how to be polite.”
They may need to be reminded a few times, but each reminder is part of the training process.
I view that kind of careful, kind-but-persistent training as “discipline”.
If the child is receptive to that kind of gentle training, they just might never need a spanking at all.
I think calm words should always be the first step, because this is how they will eventually learn to treat other people in their lives.
If they purposely ignore the training and are determined to be little hellions, then I guess that’s when it definitely needs to take the form of something more than words.
Haha, well it wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I’ve found in a happy meal.
McDonald’s restaurants are so strange. They can vary considerably in quality. Like, they either have free WIFI, cushiony feng shui decor, fancy automated self-ordering machines, and spotless attended bathrooms, or they’re basically just crack-dens with a dollar menu. They either care SO MUCH or just don’t give a single fuck.
Ours here don’t have automated self-ordering machines.
I’ve never seen anything like that.
I’d probably hate it the same way I hate the self-serve checkouts at the grocery store.
We do have free Wi-Fi in all the McD’s around here, though.
The bathrooms are usually ok. One of the locations has automatic-flushing toilets. It senses when you get up, and flushes loudly as you’re awkwardly trying to pull your pants up.
Still laughing about crack dens with a dollar menu.

I hate replying to long, thought-out replies with simple sentences, but I couldn’t agree more.
I remember half-joking at McDonalds that they should start putting sedatives in the Happy Meals.
The manager nodded, agreed, and laughed.
😀

Haha, thank you! Thank you! *bows* 🙂
(Ugh, automatically flushing toilets are the absolute worst. They never flush at the appropriate times.)
