The truth about psychiatric medication is they are reallly not good for the brain if you do some super research. I hated what medication did for me. Antipsychotics had me gain 40 pounds in 3.5 months. That chunk of time I took antipsychotics really fucked me up, a reason I am on this site as I can’t recover how my brain was before I was put on antipsychotics. Now I feel sick most of the time and I felt perfect before, never ill and never a cloud in the sky. And I’ve been off them for 2.5 years
While I do agree with your opinion and believe that some psychiatric medication does more harm than good, this isn’t 100% the case. Without putting 50mg of Setraline into my bloodstream everyday I wouldn’t be able to get out of the house and found it harder to recover from a panic attack. Without Sertraline it would take a lot longer to snap out of my depressive spells, calm down and control my temper. Trust me, some medication can help a lot, but it could take you a few dozen attempts before finding the one that actually helps (even if it’s a little).
I remember being on Risperidone and being left with muscle dystonia in the throat (it takes a little effort to swallow food properly without it getting stuck in my throat). Now that’s a side affect I had to live with after taking myself off it cold turkey! Reason being? The sedation was TOO MUCH.
Not to scare anyone, these were my side affects.

I said dystonia, then realised its not actually dystonia but dysphagia…
