I’m tired of religious groups going out and trying to make people believe in what they want them to believe. Especially the Mormons in my neighborhood. They think they can just come into my house and tell my family what’s right and what’s wrong. They think that they can just tell us a couple lame stories(or scriptures) and make us believe in what they believe. And they may have gotten my family to believe that but they’ll never do the same to me. I’ve got my own beliefs and as long as they aren’t hurting anyone then I’m not changing them. I’m just sicken tired of this. My dad and those God Damn Mormons forced me to get baptized into their religion and it’s not fair, and I’m talking about 2 years ago when I was 15 which was an age where I should have some freedom on what to believe in. Had I gotten baptized as newborn then there wouldn’t be a problem but just the fact that they forced me to get baptized under their religion at this age pisses me off. Lol I just think it’s funny how they think that a couple scriptures and some free cookies are going to change my beliefs. They’ve got some nerve telling me what to believe in. Now I’m not saying all Mormons are like this but the missionaries in my neighborhood certainly are. So I’m not saying that all Mormons are dicks like that, I’m just saying some are. Anyways sorry for posting such a post……I just needed to get that out of my system.

Its ok. Let the anger out mate.
Dont be afraid to be who you are and stand up for your beliefs. You have a right to your autonomy and set of beliefs. Let no one challenge you nor force you to conform. Dont not allow another to ridicule your faith becuase your faith doesnt coincides with theirs.
I suggest possible speaking to your parents and setting boundaries so thay do not overstep your faith and vice versa.
The only thing I advocate is to respect all faiths and beliefs. Even though you may have your opinion about them, its best to keep to one self and go about crusudaing why their religion is wrong and yours is right. I know your not like that as you have been opressed yourself. Its more of an open statement for anyone else.
Tolerance and respect of others who are different is key to peace.
Take care.
OP I can relate, I grew up in a Christian household and when I was a teen I was forced to attend church until I finally got fed up with it and stopped going. I also had many battles over religion and eventually my parents gave up trying to fight me because at that point I had become an atheist and basically owned them in every argument.
I disagree with the Koji, beliefs/faiths do not deserve any respect. They are nothing more than ideas, stupid, ideas, myths and fairytales that they’ve been brainwashed with and forced onto their kids.
I oppose all religions, even the benign ones like Buddhism, which actually has some harmful philosophies, like pacifism and trying to avoid suffering by either numbing oneself to life or cutting oneself off from experiences. Let me point you to secular philosophy and science, they’re the door out of the dark endless tunnel that is religion.
I should add, some beliefs are downright evil and dangerous like Islam, which teaches muslims to kill unbelievers if they don’t convert to Islam, stone gays and women for adultery, honor kill daughters who dress too western, etc.
Islam is a shining example of why belief systems and faiths are dangerous aberrations in human thought and we will never be truly free until we rid ourselves of these ideological psychoses.
by ‘unbelievers’ I mean non-muslims.
My point is to be tolerable to people who are different. Whether they are of a different race, class, creed, orientation, religion or etc. The point is respect anothers belief system. You don’t have to respect and bow down to their religions, churches, gods, ideations and culture. Just respect the individuals freedom and choice they made on religion
Trust me, I know Crisitians, Muslims, Catholics, and many other religions have had their fair share of evil and revolvting actions in the past.
I too reject gods and organized beliefs for the simple fact of examples you have mentioned above and many more. But I still respect a persons belief even if they do not coincide with my lack of belief.
Point: Be tolerable, do not preach nor attack anothers belief unless you have been oppressed yourself. You will not change anothers mind whether this religion or lack of is the best and most rational descion in faith.
Peace.
“I should add, some beliefs are downright evil and dangerous like Islam, which teaches muslims to kill unbelievers if they don’t convert to Islam, stone gays and women for adultery, honor kill daughters who dress too western, etc. ”
Im not a Muslim, but you obviously have no idea what youre talking about. Just prejudices and hatred is what I see here.
“owned them in every argument”
This is like 5 Highschool bullies beating up the new guy. Try arguing with someone who can argue with you on the same level. Btw, arguing against religion is easy, that is why so many do it and falsly believe that they are skilled in logic and rational thinking. Arguing for religion is way harder, since it cannot be done with those simple and narrow explanations that are used by atheist to ridicule religious beliefs.
Next time you want to argue with someone choose a person who knows what they are talking about.
Btw, the better intention for arguments is to challenge your own ideas and not to convince others of your ideas.
I was upset when i posted this. Sorry for sounding so negative there. I was such a little ***** back then, it kinda embarrases me how much of a cry-baby i was just a couple years ago. ? I cringe whenever i read my older posts nowadays. ? But i wont delete this post because this was me back then. I still dont consider myself mormon. Nowadays i live by my own code. Nobody created this code for me. As long as its not hurting any of my fellow human beings and most other living things then I’m content.
Lol….disregard the ‘?’….apperantly SP can’t read my smiley face icons when i type em unto here.
