To whom it may concern,
I wish i was a better story teller to describe why i am where i am today. But all i can really think of to share is the present moment. I am a 28 year old male with a fantastic dog great girlfriend low rent and seemily great life. The problem is no job… without a job means i will be forced to give away my dog lose my girlfriend home and great life style. Happiness has a price. I am finally realizing that it cost money to breathe and live in this world. Without a job to gain money i can not eat. Without eating i can not live. This truth is overwhelming me as my belly aches each time i fill out an application and send it in only to recieve silence. 10 years hard work has giving me many skills that all employers look for in resumes and applications yet no one hires me… why. My only thought as to why is that i dont have a very specific set of experience. Tell me where i can attain such experience believe me i will do everything possible to get it. Employers say they want constomer service experience or management experience or money handling or team work experience. Even though i have all the experience required why am i not chosen? Without an answer to why i can find no other outcome but death. If i can not control my life i can try to control my death. It seems as my dream job will never b achieved whats the point to work towards a goal when the world wont let you. I am willing to sacrafice everything to get my foot in the door in a place where i can see the goal once again.
All ranting aside… i am jobless and im to old for anyone to allow me to start over… internship require that you are in school and to gain experience in a field first requires that you have experience in the field. As rediculous as that sounds no one can deny that is exactly what employers want. Neverending hopelessness.
Mind as well pull the trigger and end it all.

I thought it was funny that when you listed what’s good about your life you mentioned your dog before listing your girlfriend, living situation and skill set. Hehe.
I think most people hate their job. We work because we need money. We need money to pay for food, shelter, clothes, utilities, etc. How many people would work their job without getting paid? It sucks, but that’s life.
I’ve seen homeless people before who travel around with a dog. The homeless guys dog always looks like he’s having a good time. The dog acts like he’s camping – he doesn’t seem to mind being homeless. I doubt most girlfriends would provide such jovial companionship under the same circumstances. 🙂
Good luck.
When you fill out a job application/resume you are selling your services to an employer. You need to give enough information as to why they can’t go on without you but leave enough out that you have them wanting to know more. You are writing a synopsis of a great book. You obviously have skills with 10 years of work experience. I do like C4’s observation to your post.
I have never been able to get a “real job” in spite of incredibly hard work at school. The reason is I have severe facial deformity with brain damage and lots of mobility problems. The only “real job” I had I got through someone I know who felt sympathetic towards me and with my mental slowness it didn’t last long at all. Others were never willing to give me a chance. I will tell you about one time I went in desperate to apply to a restaurant to wash dishes. The hiring people would barely look at me with lots of beautiful tall healthy girls around. In short, a real job was never a possibility for me in spite of our world’s mantra “anythings possible if you just try harrd enough.” Yeah, somehow that doesn’t work for the disabled.
People usually want to hire people they already know. World is so overpopulated and there is way too much competition for the simplest jobs. There was so much competition just for the dish washing job and the other small jobs I applied for. Hiring people choose the most attractive, or the ones they already know somehow.
I did successfully start my own pet-sitting business. I started with just watching one dog and doing a damned good job of it. People noticed me walking that dog and they started asking me to do theirs. Word of mouth spread around the town. People are looking for pet-sitters. I’ve had lots of jobs I’ve had to turn down because I don’t drive and stuff. I make less than minimum wage, and my parents have to support my big expenses, but this is the only opportunity I have ever had for making money. The reason everyone in town wants me to watch their pets is because they’ve heard good word-of-mouth reports about me from other “clients” and they know I charge very low fees.
I’m not going to tell you it’s easy. I don’t know where you live or what opportunities are locally available to you, but 28 is not too old to start over, or supplement what you’ve already built upon. If you never get called, you may not be regarded as qualified, so you may not to augment you resume with non-paying volunteer work to show you have been gaining experience elsewhere.
But if you are getting interviewed and not getting hired, then they have decided you’re qualified, but they are not sure how well you’ll fit in with the rest of the group.
The fact thing are so specialized doesn’t help. A few years ago, the best human i know (most brilliant, most open hearted, most concerned about benefitting humanity) was getting turned down, over and over. He eventually needed to relocate. But, now a few years later, he says it’s as if everyone is looking for some of his skills. Sometimes it goes in cycles.
Just getting out improves networking chances. Coaching kids sports can show you’ve been around teamwork (they want you to be able to hold your own, be able to engage in conflict, and kiss and make up later). Volunteering at a hospital or hospice, can show a type of “customer service” because you are dealing with some people who are at their worst. My cousin is a master at spinning her experiences, but it can begin to approach fraud. You can also list ” other training” and put down books about relevant skill topics.
Timing is also a factor. You have to try to stay positive and friendly.
I did a post about dog’s ruling. They can be instant mood elevators and bring convergence of our two electric fields, but girlfriends usually live longer. It’s good you have both. ;^)
Even so, i have to admit, I’ve done some out of the ordinary things to get in contact with decision makers. And with one, I offered to work for free for a week. It didn’t come to that, and I don’t think I was wreaking of desperation, but it was probably the job I wanted more than any other in the previous 30 years. Too bad I never went past the contractor stage and they let go a huge portion of their workforce six months later.
