I’m so tired of this quote streaking across the internet like the shitstains of hippies … fuck the fuck offfffffff:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

I was a semi-hippie back in the 60s. I also tried to kill myself in 1968. And I totally get why that kind of babble pisses you off. It pisses me off too, and I’m 70 now.
I take back the hippie shitstain remark 😉
You guys just cracked me up! Take back the shitstain remark! Funny. I happen to have grown up in the 60’s, could have been considered a hippie and have been called “shitstain” a few times. No problems there.
I’ve heard that quote a lot and disagree. I’m thinking our biggest fear is falling from a height, burning in a fire, public speaking, and a long stay by a relative (mother in law). Being “inadequate” is not even on the list. That’s just par for the course. I have brown hair, blue eyes, two hands and am inadequate. No biggie.
Wow that is a really, *really* shitty quote. Definitely agree with you there. (Thanks for the laughs btw, prior commenters.)
I think there is a grain of truth in that fear of being great, but that fear is not of the greatness itself – it is that we fear being unable to live up to that greatness, so we DO fear inadequacy 😉 I LOVE (sarcasm alert) the narcissism of the last line “our presence automatically liberates others”. I’m not sure that it is by virtue of their presence at all, but rather by virtue of our nature to pick up on ‘good vibes’ so to speak. It’s got nothing to do with the transmitter, and everything to do with the receiver!
