I pretty much wrapped up my Bioethics Agenda for my book, now I’m working on my economic platform. I called it PETHUnomics
P = Practical
E = Efficiant
T = Transformative
H = Humanitarian
U = Utilitarian
i believe in a massive overhaul of the educational and corrections system. I also believe in better social safety nets for the poor. Unfortunately, my plan will cost a lot of money. To offset this, I think we are gonna have to make some painful cuts to great programs in the name of incredible ones.
ill start off with the most controversial one – spending cuts for the National Endowment for the Arts, and the privatization of libraries (which will be replaced with a free online virtual library you can access via the Internet), and the privatization of many national parks. This still won’t save the government a whole bunch of money but it’s a great start. Also a small cut in the military budget. Also I believe in taxing mega churches.
A less controversial policy of mine will be the abolition of the penny because it costs 2 cents to make 1 cent. We will do like most nations do and round it off to the nearest 5 cents. Also the 5 cent should be reformed so it would cost 1 cent to make 5 cents. We can offset inflation by printing money just like we would if the current cost of making the money were the same today.
Also no more propping up theaters, museums, and building monuments. instead of monuments, we need better infrastructure. Schools and other government buildings that will be built in the future but is out of the natural disaster zones, such as West Virginia, will be made from cheaper yet sustainable materials – example: schools should be made out of mobile homes with outside walkways with awnings above. I went to a school like thst once while the gov wasted 23 million dollars rebuilding the new school.
Also we should allow casinos, especially in my state in order to bring some money.
Here is why it’s so important to save so much money and make touch cuts –
– more government regulations of business
-urban renewal programs and better social programs that really help the poor
-the total transformation of the education and prison system
-investing in science and technology (especially medicine, neuropreservation, and mental health, cyber security, and driverless cars)
So many more gov programs that I think should be funded. But it’s gonna cost a lot! We can’t have it all but we gotta have the best. With utilitarianism for the sake of national humanitarianism, it’s sort of like I’m taking a right wing stance but for left wing purposes
what do you think about PETHUnomics? What would you change? My ideas are still in development and I wrote this really fast. I am still taking economic courses but using my own ideas to better what I already learned,

Also mandatory recycling for all 50 states, so we can reuse the materials
On the recycling front I was appalled at the lack of recycling when I visited the United States last; I visited New York City. I don’t know if things have changed since but I couldn’t believe that there was no recycling containers in the subway system, just garbage containers. Same with restaurants. It’s not perfect here in Canada but United States is behind the game on recycling.
I just looked it up and statistically speaking Canada and the United States have relatively similar waste diversion. I stand correcting myself and perception.
My town has mandatory recycling, but that is a rarity. It’s still a dump! Why take up so much space building huge dump sites when those materials can be recycled? It’s insane
I’d change the name. Sounds kinda awkward, even if the idea behind it is good. A couple of things tho… i don’t know how the National Endowment for Arts work (or even what it is, lol), but killing off libraries is a bad idea, since you’re assuming everyone will have free access to the internet… no idea how internet access is in the us, but i’m assuming some people wouldn’t be able to access it.
Small cost in military budget? i’d take that a bit farther, since at times (and i know i’m really taking out my tin foil hat here) they even make up conflicts to justify the military expense. “War economy” has turned military into another business.
The penny idea is interesting, but brings another problem. If you make a 5 penny the lowest possible value, prices will go up. Sounds stupid, i know, but i was discussing this the other day with someone, and we both agreed that by making your lowest coin higher, business would take advantage of it. There has to be a way to address that, but i have no clue atm.
Theaters and museums are needed (same with libraries), monuments… yup, stupid expense. The school idea is pretty good, and it has been used in other parts of the world (or something similar, i think).
Casinos… did you really think this one through man? casinos make money for themselves out of regular people (sad, addicted, regular people). That is like continuing to take away from the poor…
Driverless cars = diminishes jobs.
Pretty good ideas tho, i have to clarify that, because i’m not attacking you or anything, just pointing out what i perceive that could be improved and/or flaws. I’m usually the nitpicker that everybody hates, but hey, someone has to do that job 😀 haha.
Thank you. I know your not attacking. I like to be challenged on these issues, makes me think more about them. Yeah I always thought PETHUnomics sounded weird but I didn’t know what else to call it since the PETHU letters stands for 5 words that lay out the ground work for my economic philosophy. As for libraries, I think the poor should have access to computers to look up virtual libraries. This should only happen when everyone has access to the Internet.
About the penny, I got 3 ideas – 1. Abolish it all together, 2, make a two cent penny thst costs 2 cents to make, or 3 keep the penny but reform the 5 cent (making it so the material used costs no more than 5 cents instead of 10 cents to day). There’s so many ways we can play around with this idea.
As for theaters and museums, I think there great, but I dint think there vital if they can’t be proped up on there own. the gov shouldn’t prop them up due to the fact that we need to redirect all the money we can towards urban renewal programs in the ghettos (some see theaters and museums as urban renewal) but I see it as housing, jobs, and a better police system (such as requiring every cop to have a body cam), transforming section 8 housing, offering counceling and more money for people stuck in the ghettos. I also think we should focus a lot more money on better school systems in that area – for example: group therapy classes each day for children living in poverty and sending the best of the best teachers there.
I don’t think social programs, SSI for example, goes far enough in really helping people. Though privatization of certain functions, the government can redirect the saved money to the poor and the youth.
As for casinos, there should be a limit on how much people can spend. It has been proven to bring money to states in a lot of cases. Still not sure about it.
As for driverless cars, don’t see how it can lose jobs since automakers will still make them. I think all cars should be driverless within 25 years. Car wrecks kill between 30,000 to 50,000 Americans a year, not counting the massive number of people rushed to the hospital for injuries.. A driverless smart car system would save countless lives and reduce healthcare costs due to the massive drop in ER trips.
there’s a couple who made these solar panel hexagons with the intent of replacing the road with them, I semi-watched a video about it, that way these long stretches of highway can actually be useful too, link-http://www.solarroadways.com/faq.shtml#faqMaxHeat it’d be mad expensive initially though
I loved that idea! I seen a YouTube video about it were in the future, they could be placed on sidewalks and roadways, When you step on the panels, you generate energy for the city. I’m fascinated by this but I think a lot of work and research still has to be done because it would probably be very expensive right now. Ty for the link
Casinos suck (yes I am a hypocrite as I occasionally visit a casino) :P… but I was thinking, you should get at least 50% back of what you put in… Not this put in $20 and get a few cents crap or similar… or place a percentage of money spent in casinos into school, education, healthcare… etc…
Great idea. I was thinking about having casinos but taxing them, who knows. I know the lottery brings a lot of money to our state.
My state mandates state lottery money goes to scholarships. That is good. Statistics have overwhelmingly shown that lotteries are, in effect, a tax on the poor. That is bad.
Yes true but it is there choice. I don’t think people on social government programs should play the lottery. We all know it’s a scam! With better financial aid to the poor and scholarships that come from the lottery, i think it’ can still be a win win
From my economic courses I learned the rich folks can afford, and are willing, to pay more for everything than the poor. Therefore, taxation based on income, and offer the [pre-paid] services for minimal fee, or free, is the way to go to maximize funding for many public services. These includes public schools, roads, libraries, and national parks. Maybe endowment for the arts, I don’t know. national science foundation for sure, NASA, military, etc. So, your idea of privatization seems controversial to generally accepted economic theories.
And I don’t understand how you offset inflation by printing more money. Wouldn’t that cause hyper-inflation? Money is an abstract thing. Most money in circulation aren’t coins or paper money but electronic. Might not be long til banks charge you extra fee for withdrawing cash. Probably harder to counterfeit, too (think bitcoins). So, maybe you want to call for abolition of paper money and coins. Everybody would have an account at the Federal Reserve Bank!
Just some of my reactions, since you asked what I think!
Noooooo I said we shouldn’t print more money of the cost of making money becomes cheaper. alot of people think cheaper made money will encourage people to make more of it. I said we should keep producing money at the same rate as if the cost was the same now
