“Life’s but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage, And then is heard no more. It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.” – William Shakespeare
I lack the poetry gene. I can read poetry and not have a clue what is being said, but I actually got this. This must be easy Shakespeare for me to get it! Very meaningful. “A tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury.” Yup.
Baconrind: one of my favorite quotes of his. It seems to me some of our time “on the stage” seems infinitely longer than others. I suppose mirth, not revolutions, determine the length of time’s passage?

This Be The Verse
They fuck you up, your mum and dad.
They may not mean to, but they do.
They fill you with the faults they had
And add some extra, just for you.
But they were fucked up in their turn
By fools in old-style hats and coats,
Who half the time were soppy-stern
And half at one another’s throats.
Man hands on misery to man.
It deepens like a coastal shelf.
Get out as early as you can,
And don’t have any kids yourself.

Lack of laughter and joy does tend to make time feel never ending
I love those lines. I used to have it pinned up somewhere in my room.
