does anyone else feel like whenever they go to all of these different doctors you’re just listening to people speak and literally nothing changes after you leave. Am I not listening hard enough? I try to actually listen the entire time. Am I just not listening hard enough or something?

Sounds like they’re the ones who are not listening (to anything but themselves).
Yeah thats possible. Whenever I start thinking like that I always just tell myself that they aren’t acknowledging it because its not important and its just rambling. maybe you’re right though.
depends on what kind of doctor your talking about. im going to answer under the assumption its a mental health ‘professional’ (which really can only be so professional when the thing youre a “pro” at changes every time).
the way you worded it sounds like you dont communicate with your doctor. when it comes to mental health its not about listening, its about talking. even when it comes to medication. if something feels right or doesnt feel right to you, then speak up. this is your recovery not theirs and everyone is different. the only thing the doctor has is a basic guideline. they dont know you, they arent you, and therefore any “suggestion” they make is literally just that. they have nothing but books and numbers to go off of.
im not saying demand, its 50/50. suggest. at first i didnt due to minimal medical knowledge however since i started doing my own research and suggesting my own i have been doing ‘better’. while the 3 he suggested me gave me horrible side effects, the first one i suggested is actually doing something and ive been on it for several months i think (im not doing math just a guess considering i have 3 empty pill bottles and another one on the way today). keeping in mind that while you might suggest a medication because it might work they might advise against it and you should feel free to ask why.
im not sure if the problem is you dont feel its your place to share or if the doctor isnt letting you but i hope my advice helps. and if its the case where they arent listening to you, id get a new one.
remember its your mental health not theirs
