i am not quite sure if that’s what the plants had in mind when they said “we’d rather be dead than sit here in this lousy water without any soil or mycorrhiza or bees or even cyanobacteria to hang around with”
on the other hand, i have seen a cat do this. he would push all sorts of shiny objects, checking if a ripple would appear in the object, signifying that it’s a fluid reflecting light. that’s how animals perceive water. it would often result in objects which cat wasn’t familiar with being pushed off desks.
i would also think of him as a ninja, because he could walk between all sort of clutter without pushing anything unintentionally, with this precise gait where the hind paw would always land exactly in the place from which he lifted the front paw. again, this is a result of evolution to make the predator better at stalking and more effective at catching prey
