When i was little, i started to cut myself. mind you, im only 15 now. My counsler used to ask me if i could set a goal to live ..like live to christmas or my next birthday. and i did just that. I never knew it wasnt normal to think about suicide. i think about it maybe twice a week. My mom told me one time that i was a coward for wanting to kill myself, they think i just want attention, its not. i want relief. and its sad to say i think suicide is my only way out. I’ve tried before, i took a buch of pills, went to sleep and was sooo mad i woke up. im on the edge right now. What should i do ? should i give it time ? i want to just end it. Now.

Hey Chey.
I dont know if I am the best person to help you right now. But I will try….
Let me start simple. Do you have ANYTHING that you look forward to? Anything that makes you smile or laugh or simply forget your depression??
Are there any people that mean a lot to you that you can talk to face to face? Do you have a pet???
Lets start there.
I’ve always planned my future, and looking forward to college. But its so many other things that way that down. It seems like i have no out or reason to be here any longer, taking up space.I’ve asked for help..my parents call me dramatic and blow it off.idk what els to do.
ok. So they think you are a drama queen. I get that. (I dont agree, but I understand).
So college is a great goal. Are your grades good enough? Have you thought about WHAT college you want to attend? Or maybe what state you want to go to college?? Any idea as to a major??
and WHAT weighs you down?? Money, depression, guilt, haters?
@I_dont_matter – you’re the PERFECT person for this 🙂
@chey – the “coward” response is a preprogrammed response that has been beaten into the heads of the “healthy-minded” folks as a means of guilting those who think otherwise into abandoning such thoughts – I find it tends to aggravate the issues but it’s their “coping” mechanism – try to calm your mind and focus only hat which is necessary at this moment – nothing else matters that can’t be handled later
dawg
nice of you to say dawg. but i dont know if I am a good helper right now (cuz i KNOW my brain is not working well and I am in a very dark place right now).
I just hate when young people are in just a bad place. I just try to express that there IS good times coming for them IF they can be patient.
No, my grades arent good enough. They’ve gotten better, but not good enough for what i wanna do. I want to go to Yale, which they’ve already beat in my head is impossible. I feel like i just keep letting everybody down. i’m not good enough. If its not one thing its definatly another. My counsler said i was depressed , and they think im bipolar and need meds. But like i said, they blow it off. “i’ll get over it” or they call it a “phase”
My parents told me the exact same thing when I was your age. People who don’t suffer from depression or suicidal thoughts have no way of understanding wanting to die. We are programmed to survive so the thought of wanting to end our own life is foreign to people and makes no sense. I have dealt with it so I know you aren’t just wanting attention, I know your pain is real and that you feel like it would just be easier to end it. The only thing I can tell you is that you are so young!!!! You have so much ahead of you. I can’t promise thing will be better after high school, when your on your own away from your parents but you never know. Just take it one day at a time because anything longer than that seems way too long. I really do understand, I’m in the same place you are of wanting to die and not seeing the point of staying alive but it’s one day at a time. I wish I had better words or a solution for you but I don’t…all I can say is your not alone in your feelings and you ARE NOT BEING DRAMATIC!! Your feelings are real and they matter. YOUR PAIN MATTERS!!! YOU MATTER!!! You talked about setting goals, maybe don’t make them loong term anymore, sometimes they can seem overwhelming….set a goal of I’m going to get through TODAY! I’m going to make it through this day I’m in now!! Tomorrow? You can worry about that when it gets here!! You have today!!! I hope that helps, it’s what I have to do on a daily basis….
yale is a hell of a goal. I hope you CAN obtain it. Maybe you will, maybe you wont. Would a “lesser” college really be a bad thing?
I got my degree from a little nothing college. I remember one of the professers explain the percentages of those who earn a degree…. 1% of the world.
ANY place you get that piece of paper is good. It is a huge accomplishment that MOST people are unable to do. It is damn hard work.
But even if you cant do that ……. Gates did not earn a degree. Steve Jobs did not earn a degree. LOTS of great people never earned a degree. So you have options…. you CAN achieve goals.
But ultimately it will be all up to YOU.
best wishes
Thanks, i appreciate everything you said. And i definatly will, maybe taking it one day at a time will make it waaayyy easier.
Cool. Good luck. And PLEASE be safe. Write ANYTIME you need help.
Thanks, that did make me look at things differently. I appreciate it.
I was always tell you it’s impossible to get into the top universities. Whatever happened to encouragement. Richard Hannon said Canford Cliffs was the best he ever trained. Dick Turpin beat Canford Cliffs twice. So what does that mean, is Dick Turpin now the best he has ever trained. Don’t believe their lies.
Based on my ability to form proper sentences exemplified in my last comment they were probably right about me. A few beers and spelling and punctuation start to become a problem in addition to standing up and walking in straight lines.
Somehow I don’t recall diagramming of sentences as a drinking game from school Duke:D
But to stick with a sports analogy, and with an Olympics theme – you don’t see athletes giving back or throwing away Bronze medals – Yale is a high goal – go for it with everything you have – but a state school can be very prestigious too – Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Florida State (although I might shy away from Penn State in the near future) – any of the big schools can be easier to get into and every bit as noteworthy – even a community college is a good thing – what matter is that you actually GET the degree.
@I_Dont_Matter: See? Told ya you were “the guy” 😉 … you DO matter 🙂
